When the engine was replaced the sensors off the 2000 should have gone on the 96. The engines are basically the same, but the sensors are what can cause all sorts of problems.

SOURCE: torque specs.for head on a
initially install and tighten cylinder head bolts to 48 ft lbs. then remove all head bolts and oil threads.
then torque all bolts to
step 1 22 ft lbs.
step 2 33 ft lbs. DOHC
37 ft lbs. SOHC
step 3 additional 90 degrees
