Electrical failure on 2003 windstar

Last night driving home my van started up great but as I drove lights on the dash came on and headlights began to fade until they were just about gone, then started flashing and then gone. I followed someone back to where I'd come from and enginge quit and wouldn't start back up. when I turned the key and removed it off the lights came on and then startd to flash and they key buzzer sounded when door was open. Everything went off when it was put into gear and then back on when in park with no key. Any ideas

Check battery terminals and make sure they are NOT loose or have corrosion if they are tighten and remove corrosion with water and baking soda. If the terminal are tight and NO corrosion then you have a BAD ALTERNATOR, replace and solve this problem, also have battery check it may also be going bad or bad from being drained all the way down. sounds like an ignition switch glitch or ignition harness problem can be either depending on the amount of wear and tear with turning on and off of the ignition tumbler or possible chafing or inconsistent short in harness to ignition switch check the ground line up through harness first and check the wiring harness condition

Electrical problem 02 ford windstar

You need to check the charging system. Sounds like vehicle not charging, running on battery. May need an alternator.

Our 1998 Ford windstar has went all EXORCIST in dash board etc.

at the minimum, since you mentioned all the idiot lights coming on, your alternator is fried. have someone put in a new alternator. if it's still acting up, have someone go over the computer.

I have a 2000 Ford Windstar. While driving the other day I lost all electrical power. Nothing would work and engine cut off. After sitting for a brief time the van cranked back up and I drove it home. ...

Most probably...a loose electrical connection. Since you mentioned that the electrical power and the engine got cut off and after sitting for a brief of time, the van cranked back up. You need to check the wiring to see if there's any loose connection.

Here, I provided you the link where you can download the wiring diagram for your 2000 Ford Windstar:

This diagram (manual) will help you trace the problem.

Have a great day!

Charging system erratic

You need to Check the Belts for Tightness and replace the Battery Cables. When you Replace the Cables, you will need to Grind the Area where the Cables attach to Make sure that they are Contacting the Area Completely. A wire Brush will work very well for this. If the Belts are worn, they will Stretch out and will not allow the Alternator to charge the Battery. If you need more Help Just let me Know! Please Rate My Response! Thanks!
