On the back of the engine which is kind of hard to see is a metal pipe that runs from the bottom of your radiatior under your engine and up the back of your engine. This pipe hooks up to your water pump housing unit. The thermostat is in between the two. Its a pain to get to but if thats what the problem is thats where it is. You can see the pipe I'm talking about easiest by jacking the car up and folling it up your engine.

Check your pressure and flow rate when car is running, I bet you have a plugged heater core, I had the same problem, and after I fixed everything else, I replaced it with a 100 dollar part, runs better than before.

In the last few days I have noticed that my thermostat goes from C to H in no time when driving and the little sailboat light comes on( like it needs water or something). I assume the car is overheating,...

i,ve worked on alot of these with the same problem and they were low on coolant due to a small waterpump leak that never hit the ground, check the level first, if not low then replace the thermostant.

97 pontiac sunfire waterpump location?

Hello, you probably have the quad four. The waterpump is on the back side of the engine just to the left of the exhaust manifold. If you have the four tech engine it is on the front near the air compressor. Please rate my answer thank you.
