Hi and welcome to Fixya,

Always, to remove would be counterclockwise. The initial turn would be rather hard.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa

What oil does 2004 sprinter use

If its a Diesel, use 15w40 BUT make sure it meets MB 228.3, 228.5,229.3, 229.5 specifications. I would use Mobil1, Go to the Mobil1 site and it can help you choose the correct oil.
