Question about 1993 Toyota Corolla
I have a 1993 Toyota Carolla 1.6 l . When I step on the brake to shift from P to D I can hear a click sound in the shifter and it seems like its drawing power, the lights will dim. Or just stepping on the brakes seems to draw power. Whats causing this?
Hello, and welcome to FixYa.
What you are hearing is the "Shift-interlock solenoid" activating. That is the device that keeps the shifter from being shifted into drive without your foot on the brake pedal. The brake light switch sends power to the Shift interlock solenoid, and, when powered, the oin retracts, allowing you to move the shift lever. This is a normal condition. Nothing to be concerned about. The lights dim because of the slight draw on the alternator.
I would really appreciate a "FixYa" rating for my assistance.
Thanks in advance.
