There is a safety neutral switch that will only allow the car to start in park and neutral. If it starts in other gears or Not in park, then switch needs to be replaced

SOURCE: CAN YOU PUT A MAZDA

I think that most if not all cars I have encountered that have modern safety features, require that the key be in the ignition before switching the gears to neutral from Park. Park should be the only position on an automatic transmission vehicle where the key can be removed.

SOURCE: mazda starter switch in park Car starts in

You need to replace and adjust your transmission range sensor switch. (also known as neutral safety switch) It is located under the air cleaner ducting on the top of the transmission under the lever where the shifter cable attaches.

I have a 2006 mazda 6 and it doesnt start..doesnt do anything but the lights light up..does it have a low oil shutoff

Could be the Neutral Safety Switch.
Turn the key to the position before actually turning the engine over then put the car in neutral then turn the key all of the way and see if that works.

95 mazda 626 automatic transmition....will not reverse

Check you transmission fluid level and if it's not your transmission, I'm thinking that your brake shoe lineing in the rear brakes may have separated and is jamming up aginst the drums when your trying to back up. Sorry can't halp you with any more, good luck and start with that and hope it help's.
