Right tools, patience, and patience.....

Here is the procedures for the 3.5L engine (you didn't post your size):


3.5L Engine

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Partially drain the cooling system.
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Surge tank outlet hose
    • Drive belt
    • Idler pulley
    • Water pump pulley

    NOTE The water pump is attached to the engine with both long and short bolts, be sure to note their locations.

    • Water pump

Be sure to install the 5 long water pump bolts in the correct locations—3.5L engine

To install:
  1. Install or connect the following:
    • Water pump using a new gasket and torque the bolts to 124 inch lbs. (14 Nm)
    • Water pump pulley and torque the bolts to 106 inch lbs. (12 Nm)
    • Idler pulley and torque the bolt to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm)
    • Drive belt
    • Surge tank hose
  2. Refill the cooling system.
  3. Start the engine and check for leaks.

SOURCE: Problem with 2006 Chevrolet Impala --Windshield washer fluid

Sounds like the fuse blew out again. Look at the wiring that goes to the washer fluid pump and check for any place where it might have rubbed against something causing it to short out. Fix this 'short' before you replace the fuse again or you will continue to have problems.

as you have described it will be ok
really it doesn't matter which hose goes where as it is just a heater that has water pumped through it from the pump

I am not familiar with this car, but in general:
Remove battery terminal, let out the antifreeze , remove the belt, remove rad fan and probably rad too. Depends, how much room you have, remove water pump pulley and waterpump. Good Luck

How to replace waterpump


step 1. drain cooling system.
step 2. remove battery and battery tray.
step 3. remove drive belt.
step 4. remove water pump bolts ( 318 ).
step 5. remove water pump ( 300 ) and water pump gasket ( 314 ).discard gasket.
step 6. inspect and clean gasket mating serface.
step 7. install new water pump and gasket and tighten bolts to 89 in. lbs.
step 8. install drive belt.
step 9. install battery tray and battery.
step 10. fill cooling system.


Book time is 1.5 hours ( this one is what we call a gravy run ) good luck

2006 chevy impala overheating. Cools when stopped. Already replaced the radiator, water pump, thermostat, reservoir and heater core. Next guess is the catalytic converter. The fans turn on, there's...

Leaky water pump % cross over gaskets


there are weep holes in the back of water pump if water is cming out of those weep holes you need to replace water pump if its just the water pump gaket R & r gasket make sure hose clamps are tight & hoses are not leaking before coneming water pump

Lucky you! I have the same issue with my '06 Impala LT. It is run off the serpentine belt and it is at the top front of the engine. I plan to replace mine next weekend so I'll take notes, and let you know how it is done and what to watch out for.
