Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

My 2001 6 cylinder falcon sounds like one cylinder is not firing but it is intermittent so I can't work out which one. Have already changed the plugs. Any ideas?

SOURCE: sounds like it dropped a cylinder #4 but has fire to plug

How many miles are on it? The plugs do need to be replaced around 105k miles.

The coil packs themselves on this model do tend to go out. You should check those out too.

My 1995 ef xr6 ford falcon is running on 5 cyclinders hve changed leads and plugs and number 2 aint firing

Maybe the valves in # 2 cylinder have failed

Do a cylinder leak down test-not compression test

Have to diagnose the cylinder misfire, both
mechanically & electrically

You diagnose a vehicle to find a problem, FIRST

You never change parts in an attempt to solve anything,
unless your combining your normal Preventative Maintenance
at the same time

I just changed the spark plugs in my 2004 Ford BA Falcon and now it wont start!

Sounds like you have crossed the spark plug wires...(wrong firing order:) Check with the store where you purchased the new plugs...they should be able to provide the correct firing order...also you must locate cylinder #1 to begin...and confirm the pattern of the firing order...sounds harder than it is...Hope this helps.

If you're smelling unburnt gasoline, then it sounds like you're not getting fire to all cylinders. Not sure if your car has coil paks or distributor, but which ever it has, I would check to make sure all cylinders are firing. You can do this by starting the engine and pulling the wires off the coil paks/distributor one at a time. Listen and watch for any change or variation in the running of the motor. If it trys to die out then that plug is getting fire. If nothing changes in the way the motor runs, then it's a good possibility that that cylinder isn't firing. Hope this helps.

2001 Cougar getting a P0301 & P0303 error...could this be a leaky intake manifold? Already replaced the plugs & wires. It has 114,000 miles

those codes are for a misfire if you've already replaced the plugs and wires and it still throws the same codes check the coil for those 2 cylinders and make sure it's firing if it is check to make sure the fuel injectors are firing on those 2 cylinders a leaking intake wouldn't cause the misfire codes it would throw like a po171 and or a po174 normally

Firing order for a 1996 EF ford falcon

EF & EL are 1,5,3,6,2,4
EF has a coil pack under the inlet manifold the EL has a distributor
EF uses a waste spark system so 2 plugs are fired at the same time eg 1 & 6 - 2 & 5 - 3 & 4
