SOURCE: volvo v70 air con fault

This is probably a clutch problem on the compressor, either buy a new clutch or get a second hand compressor and swap the clutch over.

You have an engine misfire....unless you have expertise in this area you need to see your local shop as you will damage your catalytic converter if you continue to drive. An OBD II scan tool will id the cylinder to help but knowledge here is key!!

My 2001 v70 shows hot engine light on col startup. Where is the sending unit on this car? or what else might it be? thanks

Very likely is the sending unit, as you suggest. There are usually separate units for the temperature gauge and the fan switch though. Check YouTube for some videos, e.g.

How to get AC to blow cold all the time on my 2000 Volvo v70?

You'll need to have someone check the refrigerant charge with a manifold gauge.
If the low-pressure side is lower than it should be but the high-pressure side is normal or showing higher than it should, your orifice tube may be clogged.
Seriously, start by having the refrigerant pressures checked.

IS IT SAFE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITH THE THERMOSTAT REMOVED WHILE IN A TEMPERATE REGION SAY NIGERIA

If it were an older car, I would say sure! The only reason to have a thermostat is to allow the engine to warm up quicker and get to normal operating temperature. But with computers and electronic controls on your Volvo, it could conceivably cause problems, like an engine light for temperature too low....kind of iffy, guess you better get a second opinion. Question is why would you want to remove it? Taking longer to warm up and go into closed loop operation of the computer, your gas mileage will be affected.

Engine code p0171-system too lean bank 1 engine code p0116 -engine coolent temp ckt range/perf What do these codes mean?

P0171....System too Lean (Bank 1)

P0116....Engine Coolant Temperature Circuit Range/Performance Problem

right it means you have a faulty O2 sensor and i would imagine the one after the cat ,and the engine is running cold so its either a problem with no thermostat fitted or outside ambient temperature too cold and you will need to put a piece of cardboard in front of radiator to stop the air flow and the wind chill factor

Engine Idle speed

Yes that is most likely normal for your car. But there you could be other factors playing into the potential high idle, for example if your timing is off the computer could be compensating by advancing spark. When was your last tune up done?

What is the size of a Volvo v70 engine?

There are 3 engine choices in the 98 volvo v70. All are 5 cylinders, 1. 2.3L turbo
2. 2.4L MFI DOC
3.2.4L Turbo
#2 is the most common engine for that year and model. If your engine doesn't have a turbo, that's the one u have.
