Your issue could be the cluster itself. Do you have power and a good ground for the sending unit?

SOURCE: I have 1988 chev c1500 V8 5.7. Truck turns over

I would also check routeing of the fuel lines, if they are too close to hot parts it can vapor lock (Boil Fuel). You could also shoot come carb cleaner down the carb to see if it will help. and check the wires to the pump and sending unit on the tank the could be loose and causeing the truck to shut off.

SOURCE: 98 tahoe fuel gage

could be just a ground problem or a sending unit problem but not a pump problem.

check and make sure that the gas tank is grounded. check also the signal wire from the sending unit that it is not loose or cut. if all the wires are ok, then it is the sending unit which is faulty.

tnx 4 using fixya,

SOURCE: fuel guage was erratic then went past full

Test the gauge by using a test light ,and grounding the test light clip to a good known ground, then touch the pink wire on the connector harness going to the tank, with the connector unplugged, and key on,the gauge will move slowly to the empty mark, and lower ,then remove the test light and it will go past full,if it does this,it is a good gauge, and the sending unit, was put in wrong,or the part was bad.

Had new fuel pump put in, now fuel gauge won't work, registers right when you start but goes to e immediately

I need the year--make--model. I can't look up any wiring w/o year--make--model.
Some vehicles will do a gage sweep when you first turn on. On some, the fuel sending unit is monitored by the pcm, the pcm will send serial data to instrument cluster for the fuel level gage. If the pcm detects a problem, the gage may default to empty.
It just depends on the vehicle.

My fuel gage registers empty when I just fill with gas

Most likely it is either the fuel level sending unit attached to the fuel pump or the stand alone unit (there are two sending units, both located in the tank), or, as counter-intuitive as it seems, it could be the speedometer assembly. Personally, I lean toward the latter.

Just replaced fuel pump/sending unit in a 2004 Bravada for a no start condition....now the gas gage doesn't work? Dropped the tank again and put OLD sending unit in....key turned on tank reads full (full...

Your replacement fuel pump assembly float got stuck somehow rendering it useless. also make sure the electrical harness was connected properly on the replacement. I take it for granted that the replacement was new? Perform a bend test on your replacement fuel pump assembly with an ohm meter. Move the float and see if the ohm meter resistance changes.

1996 ford f150 front gas tank gauge reads empty but tank is full pump in front tank was replaced about a year ago what could problem be

When pump was replaced, did you also replace sending unit? It is usually a good idea to replace sending unit when replacing pump. The sending unit also "sends" information about the fuel level to your fuel gage. It is also possible the float on the sending unit is stuck in the low fuel or empty position on the sending unit. Although on some vehicles you can replace individual parts of the fuel delivery system, it is usually a good idea to replace all the internal parts of the sending unit assembly at the same time. After all, most fuel tanks can be a real pain to gain access to the inner workings of the fuel delivery system, so why take the chance of having to gain access again.
Good luck.

Gas gague not working in 93 gmc sierra

The fuel level gage sending unit is defective, very common problem. The sending unit comes with a new fuel pump and is referred to as a module, also make darn sure you replace the fuel pump connector at the fuel tank, solder and shrink tube the new connector on, DO NOT USE CRIMP CONNECTORS.

float in tank could be stuck or you have a faulty guage.

Dash gas gage shows empty car runs fine previous owner put new fuel pump in it

Sounds like the fuel tank sender unit is faulty; keep in midn that the Passport fuel gauges can be calibrated, and won't work properly when out of calibration. Your local Honda dealer has the tools to calibrate the sending unit/fuel gauge assembly. That's the first thing to try, after that if there is still a problem you may have an issue with the sending unit itself or the fuel gauge on the dash.

Hope this helps (remember to rate and comment this answer).

1997 Jetta 3 , fuel injected fuel Gage stays empty, when I turn the ignition on gage moves up to zero/empty and no more,I have checked float unit with multimeter and the output is OK, but no voltage coming...

Gauge is not connected to any relay, its a signal from the fuel pump sending unit, you do not get voltage from that wire for the sensor you need to use a multimeter and test for ohms, every manufature is different and cant recall what it should be empty or full.

Get a shop manual or even call the local repair shop/dealer and they might give you the information you are looking for, but sounds like you have a bad sending unit and need to replace it as an Assembly.

Fuel guage not working

Testing the fuel gage requires accessing the harness from the fuel pump and grounding the yellow / white wire with 160 ohms resistance this should cause the gage to read full, and with the circuit open you should have the gage reading empty. If the gage works in this order then the likely failure is the sending unit in the tank , and will require replacement.
