SOURCE: Wire burning in half when ignition is turned and wont start

Sometimes the truck starts, sometimes it won't. Now when put it park, it still rolls and will not start. What could be causing this?

Why does my brake wire burn in half on my 2000 mustang?


Very strange. If circuit is pulling enough amps to burn up wire, one would expect fuse to blow. Is it possible something else is heating the wire, such as heater vent hose leaking, courtesy lamp bulb too close, other such? Could be that Hot Foot you are driving with,lol.

Well, the resistor is probably shot. Problem is that it melted wires as it was going out. And now it is shorted to a hot wire. Blowers and the controls runoff the ignition run wire. Good thing is that the wires usually burn near the blower or resistor. Bad thing is that they could also burn by the fuse panel or the ignition switch. Are you good with a multimeter?

I got a cpi Oliver city scooter the tail light grounded out and burned up the warring harness i replaced the burned up wires but the ignition still won't work


Although you have replaced the wires, more than likely, the contacts in the ignition switch are burnt up as well. If you can, see if you can short across the ignition switch and start it. I would also suggest installing some inline fuses to protect the system in the future.

Ignition coils burning up


coils come in t different voltages for two different wiring applications in cars.. Let me give you a sample . Car A ignition is 12 volts so there is a 12 volt coil fitted IT starts on 12 volts and runs on 12 volts. no problem .BUT car B ignition system is divided into 2 sections The start section is 12 volts so that the coils get maximum voltage fro starting but in the run position the circuit switches to a resisted circuit so that the coil only gets 7.5 volts . Now if you put a resisted coil in a 12volt car (A) then the coil will burn out very quickly as there is no resistance circuit to protect it. The General (GM) use a resisted wire from the ignition switch to the coil so that you have 2 wires on one terminal and one wire to the distributor. Check which coils you have been using as you will see on the bottom a note --use with resistor--. Second point if you leave the ignition on and the engine is not running then there is a current that is passing through the coil and this is an electric field and that will (like and induction heater burn up the coil

1992, 4.9L f150 has no spark. I have a new distributor, computer, ecc, coil, wires, plugs, checked fuses, cleaned connectors, new relays, have 12v at the coil, good ground and no spark at all? help.

I have a 92 F-150 XLT with a 5.0. The ignition switch block burned up so I replaced it. Now it will not get spark when I crank it over, but when I crank it and let off of the key, I get one spark jump from the coil; to the distributer. (I have a spark tester I placed on the cap to the wire) I have replaced the coil and the ignition module that is on the fender attached to the brain, I have replaced the ignition cylinder and key (It was acting up) and I took the dash apart to see the wire harness to ensure there was no burnt wires. (The wire connection to the ignition block is not damaged from when the switch burned.
Does anyone know if there is a part that tends to go bad when the ignition block burns up??

most likely for the ignition circuit. a new link must be soldered into place.determine the cause of the short or new link will blow as well.

A seriously shorted alternator can do this too.
Try this:
- Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery - Replace the fried wire - Remove the lead that runs from either the positive battery terminal or from the starter terminal to the alternator; the idea is to get the alternator out of the circuit temporarily. - Reattach the positive battery terminal (if it had been removed) - Reattach the negative terminal - Try starting the engine
If the engine will now start and the wire you replaced doesn't fry again, the alternator is badly shorted and will have to be replaced.

Ground Wire fried...


Unfortunately there are only two ways to do this. 1. open up the harness and trace & replace burned wire. 2. cut both ends of the burned wire and leave burned section in place, then run a new wire BUT you need to know if there are any branch circuits coming off it and destinations, and, if the burned wire has crossed over into any other wire you will not see it. Third option is to replace entire harness with a good one. (time intensive and expensive, but actually the best option) Note: you also need to find the reason it burned or anything you do will likely fry again!
