Replacing the antenna on a 1993 Chevy Suburban

Hello, I just had a new radio deck/CD player assembly installed in my 1993 Chevrolet Suburban, only to find that the antenna assembly that connected to the new radio is corroded and provided almost no reception. I tried to improve things by cutting off the corroded end and splicing the coax antenna wire to the radio's wire harness, and it got a lot better but works its way loose and still provides poor AM reception (read: almost non-existent). So I have two questions really at the moment: 1. Is the AM antenna separate from the FM antenna, and if so where is it located? I read that this is true in some vehicles, but could not find if that was so for mine. 2. Does anyone know where I can find a stock cable to run from the dash to the antenna mast? Or even just the part number for such a thing? Thank you all in advance!

SOURCE: radio/cd player went dead. Tried replacing fuses

where you bought the new radio.. they should have asked if you need a Auto adapter.
So if you put this radio in a GM, you get a GM adapter
If it was a Toyota, then a Toyota Adapter
These adapter take away all the trouble of finding the right wires because they are prewired for the vehicle you want to install

My daughter has a 98 olds 88 i removed the stock stereo and put in a pioneer cd player but i didnt see any wire on the stereo side for the elec. antenna i was wondering how i can wire it to work

Most aftermarket pioneer cd/radio decks have the electrical connector for the antenna that I've seen.

Is this a cd only deck, or does it have radio functions?

Did you use a new harness wiring adapter to get the pioneer radio to work with the old harness?
There should be a color coded set of wires for the power antenna on that. And, then the Pioneer radio should have wires that were labeled for the power antenna.

Where in the hell does the antenna wire plug into on a 1990 chevy k1500 with factory radio, did not see a place on equalizer or radio itself.

In most cases the antenna plug directly into the back of the radio. But GM came up with this crazy 3 piece stereo system. You have the display/selector, the tape deck/EQ, and the tuner. The antenna will be pluged into the tuner which is buried deep into the dash above the acceleator slightly to the right. I have installed close to 100 stereos and this threw me for a loop. Follow the tape deck/eq wiring harness to find it. Happy hunting.

Replace! The repair cost is probably more than replacing it with a decent JVC, Pioneer or Clarion unit - and you can get a DVD player as well to keep the kids occupied ;-)

2004 Chevy Trailblazer radio and CD player works, but no sound

if you have installed a new cd player in there then the propblem could be that your speaker wires and either touching each other or grounding them selfs out.. pull of the cd player and check to make sure all the speaker wires are covered properly and no bare wires are exposed.. if you still have a factory cd player in it then you will probably need to take it to a dealership to have it checked out..

Rear door speakers don't work w/ aftermarket radio in 94 suburban

You need to attach the blue wire on the stereo harness to the blue and white wire on the car adapter harness. they installed a small amplifier to power the rear door speakers and unless you connect those two wires then the speakers will not work.
