Leigh, on the '98 Corolla the fuse for this is in the engine compartment, the one of the driver's side. There are several locations for fuses shown in my manual. Thanks again for the idea. Will try.

Found the fuse in the interior of the car - it was fine, removed and replaced but it did not fix the problem. Tried with the car running and off but no change. Thanks for trying.

Logic is messed up in the computer. Try pulling the fuse in the fuse box under the driver's dash board for a couple of minutes to reset that point.

1998 toyota corolla shakes before 2 rpm, check engine lights up

Not sure what is causing it, but it sounds like you're running on 3 cyllinders. Check plugs, wires, timing . timing belt may have jumped, bad injector, low fuel pressure.

Toyota corolla engine stopped

hey, this isnt a solution (i dont think), just a comment, the corolla is equipped with a timing chain, located inside the engine with the cams, the belt that you see is a serpentine belt to run all other components like the altinator, water pump and ac. just letting you know. Hope this info is helpful!

Serpentine belt

any repair shop will charge about .5 hours to replace. If your unsure about how to do it, don't. You will end up loosing more than your patience by trying it yourself
