  • 3 Jack up the vehicle using the designated jack points. Then place the jack stands under the pinch welds in the front of the vehicle and lower the vehicle onto the vehicle.
  • 4 Finish loosening the lug nuts and remove the wheel.
  • 5 Loosen the spindle nut using the spindle nut socket attachment on your impact wrench.
  • 6 Loosen and remove the top and bottom bolts on the brake caliper and secure it to the coil springs using the zip ties.
  • 7 Remove the brake rotor. To do this, simply pull the rotor straight off the hub assembly.
  • 8 Separate the lower control arm from the damper fork.
  • 9 Pull the cotter pin out of the bolt holding the lower control arm to the steering knuckle. To do this, you'll need to use a pair of needle-nose pliers.
  • 10 Loosen the bolt holding the lower control arm to the steering knuckle. You'll need to use the tie-rod end puller to do this correctly.
  • 11 Swing the hub and steering knuckle out of the way. You will need to simultaneously negotiate the end of the half shaft out of the hub assembly while getting the hub and steering knuckle out of the way.
  • 12 Pry the half shaft out of the transmission using a flat-head screwdriver. You will need to place the screwdriver tip in between the shaft and the transmission and rotate the screwdriver back and forth, and the shaft will pop out of the transmission.
  • 13 Insert the new half shaft. Make sure that you are inserting the end of the shaft with the retaining ring into the transmission housing. This ring is a "snap ring," meaning that when the shaft is properly inserted and secure, you will hear an audible "snap." Use hard grease to get the snap ring to "float" in the middle of the groove, where it sits on the end of the shaft. Then insert the shaft. If you do not use hard grease to center the ring on the groove, you will not be able to insert the shaft all the way into the transmission.
  • 14 Reassemble the hub assembly and steering knuckle, and put the wheel back on. This will be the reverse of removal.
  • 15 Tighten the lug nuts, lower the vehicle to the ground and do a final torquehow do i remove left front axle from a 1993 mercur - icon1.png on the lug nuts to 100 ft-lb.

SOURCE: How to remove 1991 Toy Celica front drive axles?

i have a 91 celica st. i went to replace the axle and had the same problem you have. you just need to get enough leverage to try and pry it out. get a large pry bar and get in a spot where you can get behind it on the trans. if that doesnt work if the axle is free from the spindle try pulling out as hard as you can. it will most likely be a pain in the a** but eventually you should be able to get it.

SOURCE: Replacing the clutch on a 1991 celica

you can purchase a Haynes Manuel at your local auto parts store they have more detail but hose axles are tricky they have a keeper that locks them into place so they dont pop out while you are driving you really need more leverage than a screwdriver

How to remove the front left axel shaft on a 1993 buick park ave.

Basically, jack up the vehicle and support it on jack stands, remove the nut on the end of the axle, outer tie rod end and ball joint. Split the tie rod end and ball joint from the spindle assembly. Gently tap the end of the axle to loosen from the wheel bearing assembly. Once loose pull the spindle assembly outward while pushing in on the end of the axle. Once the axle is free from the spindle housing. Will need to apply gentle pressure on each side on the inside CV joint to get the axle to release from the transmission. There is usually a "C" snap clip on the end of the axle in the transmission which may make it a little stubborn to get out. Be sure to not damage the seal where the axle goes into the transmission or you will have a leak

They are held in the transmission with a snap clip. Take a small flathead screw driver and wedge it in between the axle and tranny and turn axle clock wis and counter clockwise and it will come out. When you put the new one in, you will hear it ;; snap;; in place

CV joints are getting bad in my 94 topaz. Bought whole other 94 topaz with bad engine for parts. It has almost new axel shafts cmplete that were put in. I want to remove them from junk car and install in...

the very best thing to do is get an auto manual for your car, they cost about $20.00 at auto zone or advance auto parts, even nappa auto parts should have what you need. fortunately for you ai that the 94 topaz is not really that hard to doe the transmission replacement on. the book will have step by step instructions and tips to save you questions and time.both front wheels have to come off,the cars going to have to be up enough off the ground so the transmission will clear to come out from underneath the car.if you're only replacing both axles, there's no need to remove the transmission.i want to be clear with you on that issue.front wheel drives are'nt that complicated to work on,it's just that your used to rear wheel drives right?take my advice please just buy the book and you'll see the section on axle replacement, follow those directions and you wont have problems.my only question is this, are the transmissions on both cars the same? if so then it's a go! thank you for choosing fixya.com and wish you the very best of luck!
