Question about 1998 GMC Savana

2000 Gmc Savana. Passlock problem.

About a month ago was when the first problem occured. It was 9 degrees outside and of course my van would not start. Thought the battery had died so I tried to jump it with no luck. Started reading about this passlock on gm vehicles and realized that might be the problem. So sifting through the net I have found many people with almost the same problems. The only difference with mine is that I have never had my security light come on at all. Most people have had theirs flash or come on steady. Anyway to check if this was the problem I removed the fuse for the security system and it started right up but only for a few seconds due to the fuel cut off. Well I tried it a few more times and then I installed the fuse back in and it fired right up. Anyway as the days went by it warmed up and I never had this problem again till today and of course again it is 9 degrees outside. Unfortunately I tried my old remedy and it did not work. My battery is good but it won't even crank over. Is there any way to bypass this system just to get it started at all? The vehicle was working just fine yesterday but it seems to only do this when it is really cold out. Any suggestions?

Sounds like system does not recognize the key. Have system scanned to be sure as this could also be a intermittent starter issue. Most pass-lock systems can learn up to 10 keys,( try another key if you have one). Hope this helps!

I would replace the starter and /or battery. Both can be checked at a parts store. Sounds like you may have a short in the starter, draining the battery.

look under the hood on the right side where your brake fluid is..There is a black box to the farest right of the brake fluid. take off the lid to this box were you will find fuses..Reach in and feel the fuses to see if any are loose. The largest fuses in the front, push down on those and then try to start it up..Take them out look at them make sure there ok if this dont work..they the one bad might need to be replaced..
