Question about 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Trying to fix problem code 12 and code 55 what do they mean...what parts are they....where is the problems located...
Code 12....The upstream sensor is the one in the manifold. That's the one that controls your fuel mix.
If you've not disconnected the battery for four years the power to the PCM has dropped low enough to trigger the code - possibly during cranking if the battery isn't too good or has a bad connection somewhere. You might need to remove the battery wires and clean up the clamps and terminals to stop it recurring and then try and get the code cleared somewhere or drive lots of short journeys till the code clears.

12 is a battery disconnect within the last 50 start cycles and 55 means the end of the diagnostic cycle. Basically the computer found nothing wrong. The 12 code may seem incorrect if you haven't disconnected the battery recently, but from my experience the 12 code shows up almost all the time regardless.

12 is just telling you that battery has been disconnected or dead recently. No worries.
21 is oxygen sensor, which will likely need replacing.

SOURCE: I'm trying to find out
Code 12 on any Chrysler or Jeep vehicle simply indicates the battery has been disconnected. Most of the time this code is induced when someone has disconnected the battery as a means to clear trouble codes. This code will clear itself after several successful starts
