Question about 2002 Jaguar X-Type
For the past 3 days, headlights dim when I push on the gas - the more acceleration, the dimmer they become, till almost gone. Very scary.
Took car to AutoZone - had alternator and battery checked by handheld digital machine - guy said both were fine.
I drive 19 miles to work on 55+ miles per hour roads. Is this dangerous to drive (in daylight) until garage can look at it? Does this mean the car can actually stop running as well? The weather this week is supposed to be very snowy and icy, which started this evening, and all of this quite frightens me.
Any input would be appreciated.
Sounds like your not charging . if you were they would get brighter .. it takes more juice to the engine when you accelerate so the lights get dim .. would check for belt tensioner or possable alternator or regulator problems .

I personally Would not drive it any Further than the Mechanics Shop. It can be a Couple of things causing this Problem. Check the Belt Tension and Belt Tensioner. If the Belt Tensioner is not Keeping the Belt Tight it will cause this Problem. It could also be the Brake Master Cylinder Going Bad. It could also be a Brake Switch that is going bad and is Shoting the Lights. Have them Check ALL of these Things. Let me know if you need more Help! Please rate my Response, I need all the Help I can Get! Thanks!
