Question about Cars & Trucks
While in heavy traffic trans would go out of gear while setting and took it's time going back into gear till it stopped all together, Truck will back up, Just will not og forward, Trans fluid smills a little burnt, No metal in fluid. Any Idea's
Check your fluid level on the slave master cylinder. it should be on the fire wall in the same area as the brake master cylinder, if it is empty then air has been pulled into the system and that will prevent iit from going into gear, it will just grind as you try to put it in gear, therefore it will need bled.. Most likely if the master cylinder is empty that or the slave cylinder itself is in need of replacement.

I have a 93 MB 2.6 190E . went to junkyard, got same tranny, spent 500 bucks to replace. Drives fine. No metal shavings on mine either but changed tranny, ok.

the linkage is just a slight bit off, it parks between gears when you shift into the slots. Disassemble the shifter from the center console, and slowly move just the cable its self between the positions and see if you have forword gears. When you find and sync the gears, then tighten the cable to the shifter so the positions match the notches in the shifter.
