Question about 1999 Honda Accord

I've been getting engine codes for o2 sensor codes and lean code. I replaced both o2 sensors and the map sensor. know i got engine code p0141. i'm not surew what to do next. can anybody help?

A code P0135 may mean that one or more of the following has happened: = O2 Heater element resistance is high
= Internal short or open in the heater element = O2 heater circuit wiring high resistance = open or short to ground in the wire harness. 
What to do; = Repair short or open or high resistance in wiring harness or harness connectors.
= Replace oxygen sensor (cannot repair open or short that occurs internally to sensor)
A code P0141 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:

Same as above: mentioned in P0135.
What do do is the same as above, so i am leaning towards and faulty wire harness since you have replaced both O2 sensors. Make sure the wire harness has no break in it or crushed connection clips. The other thing to look for is a bad fuse that is used to heat up the O2 sensor. It may not say O2 sensor on it, it may piggy back off something else so check all the fuse and make sure the O2 has a good ground and not corroded. Good luck and hope this helps.

The first thing you have not checked is fuel pressure.
The pressure could be low, or the fuel filter could be clogged.
It takes more fuel to run the engine in the first 5 minutes until it warms up than under normal conditions.
The codes mean the sensors are not giving the computer the readings they should, but it does not always mean the sensors are faulty.
If the engine is running rough, or the fuel mixture is lean, the sensors will show that.
Code 44 is O2 sensor reading lean which may be true.
Code 33 is MAP sensor reading low vac which may also be true.
Another possible cause is the coolant temp sensor may not be telling the computer the right thing. If it tells the computer the coolant is 200 degrees and the engine is cold, you won't get enough fuel thru the injectors.

Depending on the make model and year, code 141 is for a problem with the heater circuit for the O2 sensor bank one sensor two. Sensor two is after the catalytic converter.
The problem could be the sensor or the source of power for the heater circuit.

P0135 bank 1 sensor 1 open or short in wires,bad connections,bad sensor ,or bad ecm. P0141 bank 1 sensor 2 same diag as P0135. P0420 cat below threshold open or short, or faulty Ho2s sensors.you may have several problems. start with sensors circuit if good change sensors if not trace to ecm if reading not right replace ecm if all good replace sensors clear codes retest drive two drive cycles for cat to clear tests. then with no dtcs present test fuel pressure , injectors,then ignition system ,timing valves ,map,maf sensors,throttle sensor,crank sensor cam sensor, compression.

Both codes refer at O2 sensor...


DTC P0141 - O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1, Sensor 2)
This code means that the heated circuit in the oxygen sensor on bank 1 decreases time needed to enter closed loop. As the O2 heater reaches operating temperature, the oxygen sensor responds by switching according to oxygen content of the exhaust surrounding it. The ECM tracks how long it takes for the oxygen sensor to begin switching. It the ECM determines (based on coolant temp) that too much time elapsed before the oxygen sensor began operating properly, it will set P0141. See also: P0135 (Bank 1, Sensor 1).



You will likely notice poor fuel economy the illumination of the Check Engine Light.



A code P0141 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
open or short to ground in the wiring harness
O2 heater circuit wiring high resistance
O2 heater element resistance is high
Internal short or open in the heater element
Note: Typically a failed catalytic converter does not cause this code. You're more likely to see a P0420 code for a failed converter.


Possible Solutions:
Replace oxygen sensor (cannot repair open or short that occurs internally to sensor)
Repair short or open or high resistance in wiring harness or harness connectors





DTC P0138 - O2 Oxygen Sensor Circuit High Voltage (Bank1, Sensor2)
The Heated Oxygen Sensor (2) located rear of catalytic converter produces an output signal relative to oxygen storage capacity of catalytic converter. Ho2S 2 signal is less active than signal produced by front oxygen sensor. This code sets when HO2 Sensor voltage is greater than 999 mV for more than 2 minutes (time depends on model. Could be as high as 4 minutes)



There may be no noticeable symptoms except for MIL illumination. Possible high fuel pressure can over rich the system.


A code P0138 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
Faulty O2 sensor
Short to battery voltage in O2 sensor signal circuit
High fuel pressure (not as likely)


Here are some potential solutions:
Replace O2 sensor
Repair short to battery voltage in o2 sensor signal circuit.

I got a P0601 DTC on my 2001 Chrysler Voyager 2.4. I replaced the PCM and immediately got a P0172 with a rough idle. I replaced the O2 sensors but still have the same problem with same DTCs.


OK. Let's see here...with the code P0601 you had no choice but to replace the PCM. Now here is the kicker...Was it properly programmed before you started the engine up? I just have to ask because I have seen things like this happen with PCM replacements when the PCM did not get programmed properly or when people switch out used PCM's from other vehicles that are not programmed with the correct software for the vehicle it is going into.

Now, with all that said:
P0172-1/1 FUEL SYSTEM RICH
The O2 sensors are RARELY - IF EVER the cause of this code. It does not surprise me that replacing the O2 sensors did not fix it.

Either the O2 sensor signal circuit is shorted to voltage, or you have something wrong with your engine that is causing the engine to run extremely rich. Any way you look at it, your O2 sensor signal voltage is way too high. This is why O2 sensor failures do not usually cause this code. When O2 sensors fail, they do not produce voltage like they should and you will get LEAN codes, not RICH codes.

Anyway, this code is more likely to be caused by a bad engine coolant temperature sensor (ECT), a bad manifold absolute pressure sensor (MAP), a leaking fuel pressure regulator diaphragm, leaking injectors, etc. or something could be shorting out the reference voltage to the MAP sensor and the Throttle Position Sensor.

If your O2 sensors are malfunctioning, the main symptom would be that the Check Engine light will come on. On some vehicles, an O2 sensor circuit shorted to ground can cause a no-start problem.
If the "Check Engine" or "Service Engine Soon" light is on and there is a code for the O2 sensors, I would like to also advise you that many O2 sensor codes are not caused by the O2 sensors themselves. In many cases, the O2 sensors are only REPORTING the problem. for example, a code P0171 "Oxygen Sensor Lean" code is rarely ever caused by the O2 sensor. It is usually caused by a vacuum leak or a failed Mass Airflow sensor (MAF) or Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor (MAP) or a bad fuel injector. In these cases, repairing the real reason that the engine is running lean will fix the O2 Sensor code without replacing the O2 sensor.

That code is a good O2 sensor reporting a lean condition. Lazy people and part stored just say it is the O2 sensor because they don't know how to fix it. Bank 1 is the side of the engine with the number one cylinder. That bank has a lean condition meaning it doesn't have enough fuel for the given amount of air. Since this is only affecting one side of the engine, that narrows down possible causes. Possible causes would a leaking intake gasket or a broken vacuum hose on that side. Since both sides get fuel from the same pump and rail, this wouldn't be a fuel pump or regulator issue. It can, however, be an indication of a bad fuel injector on that side of the engine. The MAP sensor also couldn't cause this code because, just like the fuel pump, that MAP sensor works for both sides of the engine and the code is only for one side. I would drive it for a couple more days to see if you get any additional codes that could help point you towards the actual problem. In the meantime, I would check for vacuum leaks (look at the rubber hoses and listen for high pitch hissing or sucking sounds.)
