Question about 2001 Ford Taurus

2 Answers

My 01 taurus has very little acceleration for the first 2 and half miles each morning. After it warms up it has full power. Also when driving the car lerches, but not consistiently. Engine code say

The car recently had a leak in the cooling system. Replaced the crossover tubes against the firewall. Before replacing had antifreeze spraying on the engine and ran close to hot twice. Before we replace the coil pack had no spark on #2 plug. Now with new coil pack have great spark on #2 plug.

You may have bad intake manifold gaskets causing the car to suck air until the car warms up and the gaskets expand. For had a problem with these in the early 2000\'s

Hey Anon, Yes, drive it to the tranny shop..plan to leave it... sounds like you are in for a rebuild.. this is typical for GM RWD transmissions.. I have seen TOO many do this same thing,, (I have had TWO in for this... vehicles I inherited that were not maintained)..GM transmissions on RWD's must have the fluid and filter changed every 50K - 75K and a complete fluid exchange and filter replacement every 120K -150K MINIMUM for them to last..usually cost around $1200 - $1400.. sorry.. Good luck!

I noticed you did a lot in trying to find the problem but I noticed that you never ran the fault codes to check for where the problem was. Run the fault codes and tell us what they were.

Causes car jerk

Car needs to warm up properly so that the automatic choke disengages completely,
After allowing the car to run at idle for a minute or two,
Give the accelerator pedal a quick push to about 1/3 throttle,
Idle speed should drop back to normal running speed and the car drive properly

The average life of a taurus or sable transaxles is a
surprising 65,000 miles, then you have to rebuild it
I only recently read that

In the early 1990's I owned a trans repair business
& over half my work was taurus & caravans
The rest was japanese

I can not see that being the original transaxle from
1995, but I wouldn't hold out hope of any type of
simple fix

There are non to my recall ,other than a cable on
the throttle body & I don't even know if they still exist

From a stop, when you start to accelerate, the car skip like the transmission is out of sync. Once it starts going it shifts fine. This only happens after the car has warmed up (5-6miles of driving).

Car idling to high when acclerating and extra low

Sounds like a sensor, probably not harmful to drive the car. If you hook up a diagnostic scanner it will give you a code, and if it's a better scanner, it'll tell you a general idea where the problem is coming from. From research that I've done, it sounds like a pulse generator.

If you don't have a scanner, maybe a friend does? or a diagnostic shop which costs some money.
