Idle too fast

The idle in my 1996 gmc safari van is way too fast. When it began I would have to wait about a minute to put it in gear, now it idles even faster and does'nt go away

I have a 97 chevy s10 blazer 4.3l auto 4x4 idles very high. TPS reads the normal .5 volts at sensor. scan tool reads o,82 at koeo and runiing it is 1,27volts still reads 0.5 volts at sensor. weird thing is charging volts at batt and alt is 14.3 volts and scan tool says 17 volts. how can scan tool perceive higher voltage potential then supplied voltage? unhooked alt and vehicle idles normal till batt runs low. apply external volts via jump box or jump vehicle and idle raises again. so problem is not alt. the higher the volts the higher the idle and visa versa.

1988 safari 4.3 gmc. motor runs well in idle. on traffic lights and stops it starts to stutter

If it Idles well in park and neutral but shutters when you put it into gear then I would say the trans. torque converter is staying locked. You may want to try and flush the trans, replace filter and fluid.

96 gmc safari only goes into 2nd gear if i ease off the gas

Does reverse and 4th work? Do you have to back off for it to shift into 4th? 2nd and 4th use the same band to apply.

I have a 1994 gmc safari. It seems to have a smooth idle at times

Im not sure if you got it fixed yet! It could possibly be idle air control valve. But here some more suggestions! I had a 94 Safari van 4.3 liter I was working on for about three days and I finally figured out what was wrong with it. It would run fine for a couple minutes and as soon as I hit the gas and let off it would surge, but anyways I ended up changing the distributer, after the fuel pump and filter, mass air flow sensor, egr valve, idle air control valve, map sensor, and ignition module. So that might sove the problem if you were on the same track with it as I was. Hope this helps ya!

94 GMC SAFARI IDLE FAST RUN FINE BUT WHEN DRIVE IF YOU PUSH GAS SLOWLY DRIVE FINE ; IF YOU FLOOR IT ] IT STALLS

First thing to check is the fuel filter. It is likely getting clogged and starving the engine for fuel under heavy load.

1994 GMC Safari Oil leaked out for no reason. Put more oil in...look under van and oil is leaking like a water fall. Turn Van off oil leak calms to a trickle. Other than the oil water fall the van runs...

Check the oil filter adaptor bracket. My 1993 Safari had the same problem, and the adaptor bracket and seal were bad. Replacement fixed the leak.
