I have same problems, looks more like valve cover gasket gone bad, oil slowly leak on heat shield and cooked result smelly ordor going in passenger side. I took the heat shield off the exhaust manifold and cleaned it. Problem did sovled until oil drip on it again. Made my wife so upset to smell that ordor! I will have to try replace vavle cover gasket. Too much stuff to remove to get to it! That sucks! Im not fully conversant with Turbos , but I would hazard a guess from memory that there is an oil feed from the engine to the turbo to lubricate it. I would think that the oil sump in the turbo has a seal at one or both ends. When the car is level, the oil doesn't reach the level of the oil seal, and therefore doesn't leak. When the car is on a slope, the oil will level itself out and probably be above the oil seal and then it leaks. Check if the leak occurs only when the car is pointing uphill or downhill. It may give you an idea as to which end seal is leaking.
If it is leaking at the oil filter the previous rubber gasket may have stuck to the block. When the new oil filter was installed then the gasket was doubled and will leak.
Sure sounds like you described a major vacuum leak. When I cant find them, I spray Carb cleaner in the area of the hiss with engine idling, if RPM increases some you have a leak, if engine dies you have a bad leak.Since I dont know if your engine is carbureted or fuel injected, not much else I can suggest.
the engine oil cooler lines are a common problem and they plug into the oil filter adaptor above the oil filter via quick connect fittings,as for your brake light check your ground wire first.
Check oil level in transfer case, all and I MEAN ALL GM transfer cases will and I MEAN ALL will leak after high miles. Above 80k miles. Check for leak on backside of t/case,mid/lower pass.side.
