This is not adjustable. You have a vacuum leak, or a bad intake maniflod gasket. To test this , start engine, and spray some engine cleaner directly on the intake manifold gasket. If there is a change in the idle, the gasket is shot. Also spray all the vacuum hoses you can see. This is a great way to determine what is bad, but knowing ford tempos, 2.3, I'd say the gasket is bad. Good luck, let me know how you make out

SOURCE: 1994 Cadillac Eldorado Northstar High idle

I am not sure if this will help you but PO27 is listed as "Open Throttle Signal Switch" which could mean that your throttle position sensor needs replacing. Although with Cadillacs, it could mean anything. I hope this helps...

My 1994 olds cutlass surpreme idle at 2000 rpm .why ?

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome. You may need to adjust your idle. It may be set too high. If not, you could have a bad idle control sensor. This would cause your vehicle to idle high. It may be a defective map sensor. Make sure the cable is not sticking, which would cause the vehicle to idle high. It may need adjusted or replaced.

I have a 1993 Ford Tempo, idle is running way too high. Is there any possible adjustments that can be made?

first you have to check for any vacuum leaks as this can cause high idle.then you need to check the idle control motor on the intake by the throttle body.remove it and check for debris that could be holding the motor in the wrong position.check the 2 holes in the intake were it sits for debris and clean both.also check the throttle plates as they may be held open slightly(throttle cable not releasing to full closed)clean the throttle plate as well.if these check out then the idle air control motor may have an internal electrical problem or the computer is getting a wrong signal and commanding the motor to allow a higher idle than what is need to see if there is a code in the computer and have the readings looked into to see if it will show the area of the problem.has someone tried to adjust the idle speed stop screw as this can also cause a problem with high idle as there is a correct way to adjust this if needed(rarely required)

How do you lower the idle

The idle speed on this vehicle is controlled by the engine computer. If it seems to be idling high, the idle air control valve (IAC) may be stuck or faulty. This can sometimes be corrected by removing the IAC and cleaning carbon deposits out of it with carburetor cleaner. Some sensors can also cause a high idle, such as air temperature sensors or throttle position sensors. If everything else seems to be OK, however, the IAC is the best bet.

Trouble Code description

Code 46 is indeed the trouble code for the Idle Speed Controller which is that big black box thingy on your throttle body. A lot of Chilton-type manual books omit that code because the ISC isn't found on pre 94 Metros. The ISC is a computer controlled auto-adjuster for the engine idle.

An important note: code 46 is often caused by misadjusted distributor timing. As you probably know, timing affects the idle, and if improper timing moves the idle beyond the ISC's adjustment range, the check engine light will come on and diagnostics will return code 46.
