If you have a four wheel drive Sportage, you will destroy your transmission by towing the vehicle with the rear wheels on the road and the engine not running. The problem is that the wheels will spin the transmission, causing wear on it since there is no transmission oil flowing while the vehicle engine is not running. You can, however, remove the rear driveshaft from the Sportage and that will allow you to safely use a tow dolly, since the rear wheels will be free spinning.

On the inside of the door there should be a date of manufacturer tag on the end of the door or on the door jam. This tag will tell you how much you are allowed to tow.It will also say in your owners manual.
