Question about 1993 Saturn SL2
Temp usually goes to center, but when waiting at idle (drive thru lanes, stop lights etc) temp creeps up and will overheat within 5 to 10 minutes.
You will need to Change your Thermostat. A bad Thermostat will cause the Overheat Problem as Stated above. Also, Check you Coolant Level, and see if the Water Pump is Pumping Water through the Radiator. Please Rate my Response, I need all the Help that I can Get! Thanks!

What year is your car? If the temperature gauge gets between the 3/4 mark and the red then the fan turns on while the car is sitting still, then that is normal operation of the car.
If the fan never turns on then you need a new engine coolant temperature sensor. Depending on the year of your car you may have one (1991-1995) or two (1996-2002). The one that sends information to the PCM is the two wire sensor on the drivers side of the cylinder head.
