I think your best bet would be to take it in and have it serviced . They will change fluid , filter and adjust the bands . That might be all it needs.

My 1999 jeep grand cherokee sometimes shifts wrong

check to see if your fluid is low or burnt. if it is low then just add enough to cover the fill mark on the dipstick. if it is burnt, remove the transmission pan and filter and replace the filter. then add new transmission fluid.

1995 grand cherokee shifts hard from 1st to second and from second to third. Shifts fine from then on.

did this just start ? try a fluid change - ? not the TOTAL fluid change - but the kind that removes the pan and replaces the filter - just be 1000 percent sure to see the pan drop - -otherwise go somewhere else

also - take down the vin number - many are on the registration -- then call the local dealer and ask about recalls -- some last the life of the vehicle

Grand cherokee wont shift out of first gear

That's called flairing and is not a good thing (indicates pressure loss inside unit) If you haven't changed the fluid in a long time sometimes a fluid and filter change with an additive such as lucas conditioner may help. Generally though, there is no real chemical fix that replaces worn parts.Depending upon where and how worn your unit is, sometimes doing this will prolong use for many months. Or, it will have no effect at all. Sealing will not happen overnight it took a long time to get this way.If you need an immediate fix, have it rebuilt.

1995 grand cherokee trans not shifting in to second gear

Check transmission fluid levels,,replace lost fluid as needed,,,if this does not work,,take the car to a mechanic,,,sorry to say,,this kind of problem almost alway's requires a transmission mechanic to repair.

Transmission trouble

If unit has been neglected, my first thought is serves you right! Maintaining this stuff is essential.
That being said, change the fluid and filter. Use a container of Lucas transmission additive, along with the new oil. Do not expect a miracle. If it does help, change the fluid again in about two weeks. You don't have to drop pan if it has a drain plug when changing the second time. Put additive in on both changes! Likely you have a bad varnish buildup on the insides of the valve body.. you must be a really good tech to take one apart to clean it, so do not even think about it!!! Most shops do not advise changing fluid on neglected units but, if it already is malfunctioning you have everything to gain and nothing to loose at this point!
Good luck
