SOURCE: CV joint noise

this sounds like a normal condition. sorry i cant give a real great technical explanation why, but it is. are you jacking up one side of the vehicle only? you will find that if both wheels are off the ground or if one is still on the ground, it will act completely different. just the way the final drive is set up.

Sounds like it could be the CV joints, drive the car in reverse for a little and put steering on full lock, the noise will be a crunching sound coming from the front, if so then ist definitely the CV joint(constant velocity) joint, hope this helps

2007 ford fusion awd v-6 driveline or suspension area or assembly makes a noise (possibly a bearing) when car is in motion. When not moving and motor is running, there is no noise. Appears to be coming...

It sounds to be a Constant Velocity Joint (CV JOINT)...You can look under the car at the ft.axles nd inspect the cv joint rubber boots...Normally they will split from wear or road debree and through the grease out making the bearings go bad...However some will go bad without the boot being torn...If that is the case it is best to replace the whole axle when determining which side it is.....Hope this helps..Check all components for looseness ...You really need to put it on a lift and check it.......Metalpoet

My 07 Fusion has 100,000 miles on it and I think I'm hearing a slight grinding noise when I make a left turn. Could this be the CV joint?

More than likely that this could be a worn CV joint needing replacement if it is a front wheel drive

Ford fusion front end noise when doing tight three point turn or manovers

popping noise when turning is usually caused by worn CV joints. Inspect CV boots for tears. Torn boot will allow dust to get in and cause wear. If boot is torn, replace CV joint or entire shaft (usually easier). If boot is not torn, grab shaft next to each CV joint and see how much movement you can cause in the joint. If one CV moves more than the other three, that one is probably bad.

Can a damaged CV joint damage the transmission?

Not usually. You don't want to drive it with a bad cv joint,if it breaks, you may get hurt, if you have an accident.

Cv joint question

Stationary lock to lock turning, will not damage the CV joints, they are designed to turn in this manner, to test a CV joint to see if it has damage, go to an empty parking lot, stop the car, turn the steering wheel full left, accelerate kinda hard, do you hear a clicking or clunking noise? repeat in reverse and on the right hand side. Any noises and your CV joints may be worn, also inspect the CV boots for tears and leakage by turning full left and looking at the boot, then full right. Hope this helps, let me know
