SOURCE: Shifter sloppy, having trouble getting it into gear.

There is a bracket with two torx screws that gets loose. You need to tighten that. You will need to remove the plastic and metal shield under the dash, above the brake pedal to see the bracket. Look up above the brake pedal and wiggle the the shift lever and you will see what needs tightened. Worked for me.

Usually, if the shifter is loose, the bushing on either end of the cable is worn out, and the cable must be replaced.

How do you tighten gear lever on cortina 1600e thanks

Inspect Linkage between shifter and transmission. Determine where the sloppy looseness is. Replace sloppy linkage parts if transmission lever is not loose. Pray you don't need to have shifter leverage (inside transmission) repaired.

Gear shifter is loose how do I fix

Hi, you do not indicate what vehicle this is and the only thing that i can suggest is if it is a Ford the holding plate is loose on the top end of the gear shifter, move the carpet near the gear shifter and this will give access to this area, tighten any loose screws or nuts on the end of the gear shifter. If the vehicle is a VW then you will have to go under the car and tighten the holding nut at the end of the gear shifter. All the best.

The gear shifter wont go into park , and only started in neutral but now seems to be stripped. this is a 1992 crown victoria v-e

The bolt tens to loosen up on the shifter. Look up from the floor board at the column. You will see the shift cable attached to a metal shift arm. Where this arm is bolted to the column with two bolt, tighten the bolts they should be loose, You will need a torx bit. I think T30 or t40

I was driving yesterday & it wont go into any gear. It's like its real loose. 5 speed Dodge Neon. Shifter just wiggles around. How can I tighten that or is it something major?

Well check if your gear shifter cable is not broken or off loose. Have somebody wiggles the shifter while you look around the transmission and see whets going in on. Good luck

Shifter lever on steering will not go in gear tight, seems like has alot of play and real loose. how do I correct this problem

This may be similar to the full size Ford shifter. If so, if you can access under the steering column, there is a connection flange on the shift linkage, There are two allen screws attaching the shift lever with a matching flange that attaches to the remainder of the shift linkage. The screws may have come loose and /or fallen out. With a little bit of finesse you'll be able to reinstall and tighten the screws... this should tighten your shifter back up...

Hi,
You have the same problem as a previous guy, its the ball and socket at the end of the gearstick, its worn out, or just popping out of it's socket so the bolts holding it down or the large nut the is holding the gearstick in needs tightening. So best to remove it, check for wear and if it is ok then use a loctite glue to refit the main nut over the gear lever.
Hope this helps, let me know how you get on.
