.They don't call it the GEM anymore it is now called the Smart Junction Box.

On alot of cars you must erase the code after repairs,the code is pending in the memory and can still run bad till cleared.try clearing the code

Your ECM AND your BCM??? Wow! what happened there? Somehow I can't believe this could be the case unless your vehicle experienced a severe over-charge from the charging system or something. Module failures are pretty rare...to have two modules out at the same time is pretty much unheard of. I would really like to know what the problem is that caused them to tell you this.
To answer your question: YES, you can send your modules out and have them repaired. It usually costs about the same amount as buying a "remanufatured" module and it will tie your vehicle up for several weeks while you are waiting for the re-builder to send your unit back to you. If there are re-manufactured modules available locally, this is your best option
