Why is my transmision fluid watery and bubbly

The transmission fluid fill is under the hood of the car, the same place the dipstick is. You'll need to take the dipstick out, and fill to the specs, but the fluid will then fill the pan where it needs to be.

Watery red fluid or thicker red fluid? Watery is coolant (dexcool = problems) thicker red fluid is transmission. Maybe crawl under there & see where it's coming from? Make sure all fluids are full to avoid bigger problems.

The mechanics lied to you. Changing the transmission fluid and screen will not cause any car not to run. Just as you need to periodically change the oil, the same holds true for transmission fluid. Though the fluid is black, yoou state that you have no slippage or nothing out of the ordinary. If that is the case, then you do not need a new transmission. Just have the fluid and screen replaced and all will be fine. Make sure to pick up a transmission pan gasket while you get the necessary fluid and screen. Again, changing the fluid will not cause any car to not run. It is safe to perform the fluid change.

check brake fluid level. makes sure system is properly bled. put a hose on bleeder nut, the other end submerged in a jar with some brake fluid in it. start car, have someone pump brake pedal, hold down, then turn open the bleeder 1/4 turn and then close. Friend can then release and pump again. repeat till no bubbles or dirty fluid comes out. keep an eye on fluid reservoir level, do this at each wheel starting with the one furthest from reservoir to closest. get two large brake fluid bottles, the stuff is cheap and you will want to flush quite a bit through to get dirty, watery fluid out. Set the parking brake and put a block on at least one wheel. Pop the hood and find the Transmission dipstick. Start the engine and shift the gear shift into neutral. Pull the dipstick, wipe it with a clean rag, put it back in, pull it out and read it.

red watery fluid is the power steering, it is most likely a leaking high pressure line to the rack and pinion unit.

If you have a automatic it's with engine at operating temperature, shift through all gears. Check fluid level in PARK and add fluid as needed.
