Is the fuel pump turning on? turn the key without starting and listen for noise coming from the back of the car it will come on for a couple of seconds and stop. if you don't hear anything are you getting voltage to fuel pump relay? located under the hood in the black fuse box between the battery and radiator, there is a yellow 20 amp PCM fuse check and make sure it is not blown. grab the owners manual fuse relay section, locate the PCM and Fuel Pump relays, ( they are interchangeable) They are two small black relays, with help of another person, check that the relay are clicking by turning the key on and off and placing a finger on the relays, if they are clicking. you will need a test light or multimeter to check for the voltage at the relays, remove the relays and there should be voltage on one of the slot in the fuse box where the relay was, if there is voltage there replace or swap the relays first if the engine doesn't start and you don't hear anything in the back of the car fuel pump running for a couple of seconds then you will have to drop the tank and replace the fuel pump.

Ive never seen a car start up just fine after leaving the key on all night. I would try jumping it. If the voltage is too low it wont start.

Key won't come out of ignition on 1999 vw jetta

IGNITION KEY WILL NOT RELEASE

It can be faulty ignition lock cylinder. I suggest to wiggle the steering wheel a bit and see if the key gets released out. If that is not helping then first turn steering wheel to right and try removing the key, or next turn steering wheel to left and see if you can remove the key.

----------

Spray wd-40 in the ignition key hole and let it remain there for few minutes, after that once again try to remove the key and see if that helps.

---------

But if that is not helping then ignition lock cylinder has to be removed out and key has to be manually removed.

2002 taurus 3.0L OHV stalls when hot have replaced IAC,camshaft position sensor, fuel pump and there are no codes on engine stall occurs most often when slowing and turning

If you have to wait to restart its usually a faulty coil or ignition module.
Someone would need to troubleshoot the ignition system when the engine fails to start to proceed. Could be a faulty relay too.

Car wont start when cold have replace starter switch battery and altenator and starter, have used grismer tire and repair with no fix yet what am i not doing right

You would change the fuel filter, crank sensor and run a can of fuel injector cleaner in a tank of gas, you may also want to remove the Throttle Body cover, get a can of carb cleaner and spray the heck out of the TB do this while running throttleing it, dont let it idle, it will die out on you.

Keep in mind that the starting problems typically come from problems with the battery, starter, fuel pump, or ignition. Checking these things in your Ford Taurus can be done with a few automotive tools. Once you have isolated the problem, you can decide to fix it yourself or take it to a professional:
1. Place the key in the ignition and turn to the "On" position. The dashboard on your Taurus should light up. If it does not, it indicates that there is a problem with your battery.
2. Open the hood of your Taurus and check the battery for corrosion or loose connections. For corrosion, clean the connections. Tighten any loose connections. Attach a voltmeter to the battery. The red lead goes on the positive terminal and the black on the negative. On a Taurus, 12.5 volts or better are needed to power the car, and between 13.8 to 14.5 to run the alternator. If the voltmeter shows 12.5, then the battery is okay; if it is between 12.5 to 13.8 then the alternator needs to be replaced.
3. Turn the key in the ignition. If you hear a clicking noise, your starter is faulty and needs replacing. If there is no noise, the ignition switch could be the culprit.
4. Turn the key in the ignition on and off for three seconds, then on again. Listen to the Taurus. In a Ford Taurus, the fuel pump operates for only two seconds. When the key is turned on, you should hear a sound similar to a growl or "rrr." If you do not hear the sound, your fuel pump is not working properly to send fuel through your car.
5. Remove a spark plug from your Taurus and lay the wire to a metal surface. If there is no spark, the engine is not igniting properly, and you need new spark plugs.

It acts like it is going to start, but it won't turn over. New fuel filter, no change... any ideas? 1999 Ford Taurus.

If you can hear the fuel pump come on when you turn the key to the run position, then you turn key to start car...and the car will start and run for one or two seconds...then you may have a bad crank position sensor. Go to autozone.com, become a member and look up crank position sensor for your car. There will be a tutorial on testing and replacement.

1999 ford taurus starter will not engage

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

To my knowledge, you assumption is correct on most designs. That wire should go to the ignition switch and will be hot when key is in START. However, same wire often would be connected first to a relay that is interlocked with some conditions/status other then key to START. They would be:
  • automatic transmission should be in neutral/park with light indicated;
  • alarm/security/immobilizer is inactive/OFF.
Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

Repair ignition in a 1996 Ford Taurus

You need to replace the ignition lock cylinder and/or the ignition switch actuator parts that turn the electrical switch off,on,start when the key is turned, the electrical part of the ignition is remote from the lock cylinder, it is operated by a gears and a rod.
