I have a 1989 chevrolet S10 has 2.5 liter (iron duke) engine, has 178,000 miles. the truck runs great but if you let it idle for about 10 mins. at operating temperature the engine starts loping and has no throttle respone. if you shut the engine off and restart it the engine starts, runs and stops immediately until it cools down. any advice would help. Here is a list of the parts that are new.
new spark plugs
new spark plug wires
new disributer cap and rotor button
i checked and set the timing.
check all vacum lines
new EGR valve
new PCV valve
new fuel filter
new throttle position sensor
and some other odds and ends
Re: chev. S10 starts but stop's immediate when hot
Check compression, at that many miles the exhaust seats could be wearing up into head causing valves to stay open longer loosing compression, while the engine is cold oil is thicker ,lifters pump up further do to thick oil when oil thins out you have less lifter pump up thus working working properly check compression cold should be 125 low to 155 any less than 100 you have valve prob.

the code P0137 is low voltage o2 sensor bank 1 sensor 2.. mean o2 sensor rear of catalyst converter has low voltage it should stay around .500mv mean converter cat.do is job.with a voltmeter test backprobe signal when engine running. by default key on engine stop around .500mv.
Above the photo are 2 PDF documents. The first - Routing Guide gives you the diagram code for the car and engine. See page 30 for the 89 CHEV Corsica 2 liter. There are 2 belts - one for the air conditioned equipped engine (diagram 6-3) and one without the aircon (diagram 5.3).
Next go to the second document - Illustration guide PDF document - for those 2 belt diagrams.
What s making it hard to start/Battery down/Slow turning over /lack of fuel.etc etc??
How hot does it get /how many miles before if stops running/How hot does it get before cutting out./Has the engine overheated in the last 2 weeks /do you loose coolant and how much a day/ does it sound like its missing sometimes.
Let me know the answers to all the above ASAP Ron
