Question about Chevrolet 1500

1 Answer

My 94 full size blazer starts and idles fine in park and in neutral. When I put the truck in gear and hit the gas, it'll start, then act like it wants to die. The Catalytic converter is off, I'm going to get that replaced. I've done the basic spark plug/wire/distributor cap replacement. Last year I changed the EGR valve. I changed the ignition coil today. Put on a new o2 filter. New fuel Filter. New k&n air filter. Could it be a bad fuel pump?

This could be a bad ground on the ECM. When it is in park it is open loop. When you put it in gear, the ecm goes closed loop with the oxygen sensors and with no ground it dies.

SOURCE: 94 s10 blazer dies when put into gear

Sounds like a vacuam leak, best thing to use is cold start spray, by spraying the vacuam lines with this you will notice a change in the idle wherever the leak is at.

You might want to have a balance test done to make sure that your injectors are working properly.I worked on a blazer before and did the same thing by replacing everything not even giving thought to the fuel spider or the injectors.

Earl! You could have bought a new car! Ah, but you must love this Ford truck, it's obvious from the never- say- die parts list. How long has this project been going on? If you plan on finishing it yourself. here's my thoughts: Invest in a good scan tool (about $150-$200), a good compression tester ($40), a vacuum gauge ($15), a multi-meter (your choice-a useful one starts as low as $20, a digital volt-ohmmeter (multi-meter) designed for auto electronics is desireable), and last, maybe a fuel pressure tester to round out the list (about $40). Maybe you have all or some of these already. They are all good diagnostic tools you will find very helpful in getting to the root of your problem. The place to start is with the scan tool. Look at trouble codes, look at live stream data. Both will help you a lot. Do a compression test. Find out the internal condition of the engine. New parts are good. Now make them work.

SOURCE: Erratic Idle - When starts the idle is about 1100 RPM as it warms up, it goes to 700 - 400 RPM

Have you "reset" the computer on the car. When parts are replaced, the comp continues to run the vehicle on all the old settings which can drive you nuts because nothing you do will fix a problem. Usually, taking both battery cables off and waiting for 15 minutes will reset the computer. If this does not do it, then ask a dealer how to reset yours.

Do you have tbi or the spider fuel system. That spider fuel system is noted for problems. Did you use a gage and check fuel pressure? For tbi it is 9--13 psi. For the spider fuel system, it is higher.
How many miles on your engine? In park or neutral, not much load on the engine. There is a load when you put it in gear. Can you do cylinder compression test to see if compression is ok? I believe the highest reading to the lowest, all should be within 75% of each other. A generic spec. Maybe a 100 psi min. spec

My car runs fine for days then i'll park somewhere and go to turn it back on and it won't start at all. It won't turn over or anything.

CHECK BATTERY CONNECTIONS, STARTER CONNECTIONS, WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN IT DOESN'T START, TO GET IT GOING AGAIN, DO YOU GET A JUMP START IF SO CHECK CONNECTIONS.

Have your modulator valve checked, or there could be a vacuum leak somewhere.

1994 full size blazer runs fine for about a minute after start up after that it acts like it floods out catches back up everytime you hit the gas after 10 min of that it runs ok what is wrong with it?...

Sounds like it is either your tps or air idle control.
You dont say if you have a check engine lite on.
If lite is on it will be easy to find with a scanner.
This is a fairly common problem..
Hope I was of some help.......

1990 full size blazer starts fine idles then dies

sounds real easy either a bad idle air control solenoid or more likley a blown throttle body gasket. to test fro a blown gasket, with engine running and cool spray carb cleaner or brake cleaner around base of tb were it bolts to intake. when it hits the bad area, should idle down and be normal for a second or 2. iac is possible, try this first since its so common and let me know

Vibration when in gear, and stalling.

The problem is the torque converter solenoid. I had it happen on my 94 Cavalier a few years back and was a cheap fix at the local car mechanic. What happens is the transmission warms up and hits a certain speed where the solenoid engages, but then it sticks and won't disengage until it cools down sufficiently. When it sticks, it causes the car to shake when slowing down and will snub out the engine if you come to a stop.
