Question about 1990 Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais
Was taking dash apart and was pulling out a lightbulb in the dash because it was dead, as pulling glass came off rest of light staid inside the socket, turned lights on to see other lights replaced. looked good, saw a little bit of smoke. figured its probably a new fuse replacement but i could be wrong. so speedometer stopped working. and i need to fix it asap.
With smoke from the unit .I would say you are up for another unit as to get smoke something has overheated and burnt/shorted out

does your vehicle have tilt wheel...that is a common problem and your brake light wires run down through the steering column

how do you know fuse is good?
sometimes just looking at it doen't prove that
you need to check it with a test light on both blades with either the brake pressed or the signal on. both sides of the fuse should light

Try a vehicle speed sensor (mounted on the transmission), this sensor (or in 1% of cases its wiring) might be bad. This would cause your problem.
If this does not fix the problem, you probably effectively need a new transmission or a transmission rebuild.

SOURCE: coolant fan stopped working
try this.. turn on your a/c ... then look at the fans.. if fuses are good at least one fan will come on.. coolant temp sensor and radiator fan switch are most likely the problem... one goes bad takes your temp enabled fan away... i usually change both at same time.. normally like $12 each or so.. some teflon tape a socket and a little coolant should get you fixed... also.. make sure when you do this the car has been off for a LONG period of time. any coolant in there will be VERY hot if not.. hope i help

SOURCE: tail light fuse keeps blowing
it sounds like it may be an electrical problem, you ae going to need to follow the wiring harnesses from the tail lites back to the fuse pannel as well as the dash lites if you don't find where it is shorting out. how ever the first place I would look is to see if you have a plug in for towing a trailer and if so I would start there. I would also check the pigtails where the lites plug in to see if they are all rite.
