No, you can remove the bolts to starter from top drivers side under hood and remove the wires to it from passenger side by reaching under intake manifold. remove wires first and when new starter is in put wires on last. first remove battery cable from battery, let me know hqw it works.

any neon almost has a security system some times it will trip try using the key to un lock the door that will reset the system then start if nothing try the fuses under the hood one is bound to blow and wont let u start the car

Battery has a full charge, but the solenoid just "clicks" when i try to start it


the contacts inside the starter solenoid that power up the starter are burnt, this is a common issue on this starter design, you can replace just the solenoid or just replace the whole starter.

well i would try with the more simpler of things!! Check and make sure the flywheel isnt broke and locked the motor um in to place!! It is a possiblity that you broke a rod or even borke the crankshaft!!

sounds like you eitehr have a grounding issue or something has burnt or cut your wires going to the inside of car

97 neon oil leak


Solution: Maybe.

Rear main seal is probably the problem.

My 1997 Dodge Neon has this same problem. My father-in-law (who used to be a mechanic) checked the car for me and found the rear main seal needs replacing.
