Ok my 2000 Maxima won't stay running. It starts fine, but when the idle drops it stutters and dies.

The symptoms you describe can be caused by a faulty MAP sensor or airflow sensor.

Try disconnecting the electrical connector on the MAP sensor and see if the car drives okay.

No that would not affect temperature in any significant way. the engine in most cases just won't run or will be hard starting.

My 2005 nissan maxima has a p0171 code which means it runs too lean. while driving, it loses power then it comes back as if car is staving for gas. What should i look for?

P0171 indicates a lean condition. The most common cause of this is a defective mass air flow sensor. Also check if any vacuum leaks.Replace MAf sensor,if cleaning the MAF does not help.

Thanks.

P0100 01 maxima change maf same problem. act like it has a rev limiter on it

have the MAF sensor circuit checked, make sure all wirings inside and out aren't damaged. This may be a cicuit issue if you have replaced the sensor with a new one. Otherwise the new sensor itself may be defective, or ECU malf. Hopefully this helps!!

Hi jones1918, just in case you missed my last post check the CPS(cam positioning sensor) and the CSS (crank shaft sensor) as well as the MAF (mass airflow) sensor ,I am thinking from what you say it is the CSS but all three will cause your problem, good luck and let me know take care
