Question about 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier

1 Answer

Tranny fluid 1999 Z24 2.4 liter

When you say "right side" do you mean the passenger side? We have been looking for this nefarious cap, but on the drivers side. I was given to understand it was behind a shield behind the drivers side tire. Thanks for the help.

The fluid ADD cap is on the driver's side. You check the fluid level from under the car. Let me know if you want the procedure.

I believe the power steering is out in my vehicle but i can not find where the fluid goes, does power steering fluid go in this paticuar vehicle?

If its a 3.8 liter the power steering reservoir is on the back side of the engine on the passenger side. you will need to look down in between the firewall and the motor to see the cap. If you standing on the passenger side of the car looking at the belt the pulley furthest down and to the left is the power steering pump pulley. The reservoir is on top of the pump.

I have a 1999 Saturn sl model and NOWHERE can I find the dipstick to check the tranny. There is the yellow dipstick for the oil, but where the Chilton's guide tells me there should be a red dipstick for...

The Transmission has a check plug and a fill cap. The check plug is located just under the passenger side axle and has a 11 mm head on it. The fill cap is on top of the transmission just underneath the air cleaner box. the transmission must be ideling in park and be warm to the touch , not hot or cold. Fluid should drip from check plug when full.

Does 1999 chevy malibu 4cylinder have transmission dipstick?

no, see below for level check procedure:

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2. Place a container under the fluid level screw.
    0cc12f3.gif

Fig. The fluid level screw (see arrow) is located above the transaxle pan on the passenger side of the vehicle

  1. Remove the fluid level screw.
  2. Ensure the oil level is at the bottom of the level screw.

NOTE Because the transaxle operates correctly over a range of fluid levels, the fluid may or may not drain out of the screw hole after removing the screw. If the fluid drains through the screw hole the transaxle may have been overfilled. When the fluid stops draining the fluid level is correct, and you may install the level screw. If the fluid does not drain through the screw hole, the transaxle may have been low. Add fluid at the vent cap location in 1 pint ( 1 / 2 liter) increments until the oil level is at the bottom of the oil level hole. Use a long necked funnel to avoid spillage.

  1. Install the oil level screw and tighten to 124 inch lbs. (14 Nm).
  2. Lower the vehicle.
  3. Connect the negative battery cable.

Wheres the dip stick for tranny

If it's a four speed automatic it doesn't have a dipstick. You have to remove a plug by the passenger side cv shaft and fill the trans thru the fill cap till it runs from the plug when the engine is running.

Cant find the dip stick for the transmission fluid

It's a small red cap, that may be located on top of the tranny underneath the exhaust pipe, or close to where the tranny, meets the engine..you may need a flash light, so you can see the level, because there is no min-max mark..you will see the fluid...and the cap maybe dirty so it may not look red...goodluck

If you're looking for the tranny dip stick. There isn't one. the tranny fluid must be checked from the over flow plug. there is a tool to use, but only dealers have this.
