Question about 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

Jeep Grand Cherokee loses power while driving.

Basically, while driving my jeep will lose radio, power steering, gauges, and eventually it will stall. The alt. was just replaced twice, battery terminals have been replaced. And the only way to get the power to come back on is to move the battery slightly and then it will be fine. Any ideas?

Ok, I cleaned the ground connection, power seems to be ok now but the engine wont start. It turns over, doesn't give the clicking noise a dead battery would give.

When you say it loses power, do you mean electrical power or engine power ?
You would need to look at the fuse boxes for a loss of electrical power, and use a scanner or code reader to check the computer for trouble codes for a loss of engine power.

My jeep keeps losing power when it's being driven. Occassionally it also stalls when it loses power. When it does lose power, no gauges change or no dashlights come on. We've have it checked...

1999 jeep grand cherokee losing oil pressure

This is not necessarily an issue, but normal physics. I suggest remove your transducer and test with an external, known good, gauge.... Be sure the vehicle is at normal operating temprature....that will give the lowest pressure reading, as compared to cold engine.

my 96 grand cherokee had the same problem with stalling minus the clock reseting part. what fixed mine was an idle air control motor it sits at the back of the throttle body on top of the motor. the part cost about 60 bucks and it hasn't stalled out on me since. i hope this helps you out.
