You must have Cam and crank set to top dead center On the number one cylinder to be in time. The Distributor should be pointing to the number one Cylinder With the rotor button.

I took out the cylinder head for reconditioning after the car overheated ,then resetting valve timing is my problem now?

Is number 1 on tdcc or tdci? It should be tdcc with both number one cylinder valves closed as they would be on number one tdcc. I have no idea why you would be rocking number 5 cylinder valves with number one on tdcc or otherwise. The valve and ignition timing needs to be set correct on number one tdcc and then all others will fall into their correct timing also.

How do I set the timing

IF this is a 6 cylinder or bigger, there is nothing to set. If it is a 4 cylinder, you can have issues with the mechanical timing because of the timing belt that may have slipped a cog.

How to insert the code for the radio of my golf3 /1996

ENTERING SECURITY CODE

Most vehicles are equipped with Heidelberg V or VI radios that are equipped with a theft protection program. When the battery has been is disconnected or if the radio has been removed, the radio will lock-up electronically and cannot be operated until the security code is entered. On the Heidelberg V, if the proper code is not entered in six attempts, the radio will lock-up permanently and cannot be repaired. On the Heidelberg VI, two incorrect attempts will lock the radio for about 1 hour.
The Heidelberg V may have a code assigned at the factory or a personal code created by the owner. The Hiedelberg VI has a code assigned at the factory and entered by the dealer during pre-delivery inspection. New radios come with the code printed on a sticker but not entered into memory. All codes are 4 digits. To code the radio:
Heidelberg V

  1. Turn the radio ON . The radio should display the word SAF. DO NOT attempt to eject a cassette with the radio in this mode.
  2. Push the AM/FM and SCAN buttons at the same time and hold them until the display changes, then release them immediately. The number 1000 will appear for about 3 seconds, then the display will go blank. Release the buttons then.

NOTE If the buttons are held too long, the radio will interpret this as an attempt to enter an incorrect code.
  1. Use the first four station selector buttons to enter the code. The first digit of the code is always 1. Each time the other buttons are pushed, the number in that position will change.
  2. When the code appears correctly in the display, push the AM/FM and SCAN buttons at the same time. When the radio plays and displays a frequency, release the buttons.
  3. If the code was entered incorrectly three times, momentarily disconnect the battery and try again. If the code is entered incorrectly three more times, the radio cannot be coded and cannot be repaired.

  2. Push the AM/FM and SCAN buttons at the same time and hold them until the display changes, then release them immediately. The number 1000 will appear and remain in the display.

  3. If the code was entered incorrectly two times, leave the radio ON for one hour and try again. This can be repeated as often as required.

Which cylinder do I use to set the timing in a 2.2L Isuzu rodeo?

All timing on engines is always done on Number 1 cylinder. On an inline engine it is the very front cylinder nearest to the radiator. On a transverse engine it is the cylinder nearest to the belt drive pulleys.

Need to repair or replace the soft top on my 1998 RAV4, i live in Columbus MS but bought the car in Heidelberg Germany and shipped it here last fall

It sounds like you may need to track a replacement through the European Toyota outlets, but try the factory here first. Wow shipping a car from Germany...maybe you can afford a factory replacement softtop. I posted some other solutions if you are on a budget or have time and effort to create a solution.

Setting the timing

No sticker on hood or rad support to tell you timing? #1 cylinder is one closest to front of engine. By front I mean where all the pulleys, belts etc are.
