High pitch squeaking noise at idle

2001 mercury sable, high pitch sqeaking noise at idle that turns into a fast knocking sound, it's coming from around the thermostat area, no loss of power

I have the same problem, my car is 1999 Mercury Sable. Oddly enough that it only makes Knocking sounds when I turn the "Cold/Hot Air" knob (on the dashboard) to "Hot" (red), if i turn the knob to "Cold" (blue) the sound disappears! and it has no effect whether I turn the fan on or not. It must have something to do with the heater or thermostat. Does yours do the same thing? please let me know ;)

You might need a stethiscope to hear where this is coming from could be a idler or maybe the tensioner or maybe the alternator .. none of these would bother power

My 2001 xterra started making a weird sound between 20 and 35 mph. It sounds like there is a leak in some pressure system.

Common Car Noises and Their Likely Causes Noise More Details Likely Cause Fixing It Clicking noise while turning Starts faint, gradually becomes more noticeable until very loud Failed outer CV joint (constant velocity joint) due to torn boot (most likely) or old age Replace either the whole axle assembly (recommended) or the outer CV joint Water pump noises Difficult to diagnose because of water pump's location Noise usually caused by damage to the bearings in failed water pump Only cure is replacing it. If possible do it at the same time as a timing belt replacement to cut down on labor costs Squeak or squeal from an engine belt Loud, high-pitched squeak or squeal Belts either need adjustment or replacing If belts only squeak when damp, they probably just need adjustment. If they squeak constantly, they probably need to be replaced Exhaust heat shield noises Rattle that you hear when car is idling Damaged heat shield Replace heat shield

High pitched sqeak sound back end when coming to a stop in forward or reverse

Most squeak sounds will come from the brakes especially when being applied. Have the brakes checked for wear and performance

sounds like a air leak ,, bank 2 sensor 2 ?? refers to after the catalytic converter ... could be a faulty sensor but more likely an air leak .... even a faulty fuel tank cap seal is enough to cause problems on these systems

What is the problem of my car, mercury sable 2001,the rpm is too high even if it is in neutral?

Can be a vacuum leak which usually causes higher rough idling, but a dirty MAF sensor or dirty Idle control can cause it. don-ohio (:^)

2000 mercury sable ls squeaks in the front when it gets cold, what should i put on the front end joints and stuff? Highly annoying.

If it happens when the steering wheel is being turned left or right when parking, it could be dry tie rod ends. They will have to be replaced and greased up well to get rid of the sound. This happened to my dad's 1998 Ford Taurus.

2001 mercury sable idling high and thrusting won't come to a complete stophave to put it in park

Sounds like a broken vacuum line,Donna. Makes the computer go crazy.Check
all vacuum hoses.A leak that bad you should be able to hear.
It might be something else, but I'd check vacuum hoses and connections first. (:^) don-ohio

When driving or starting the car i notice when using the brakes it makes a squeaking noise - not all the time think its possibly damp causing it as it was raining yesterday and it happened but no rain...

To address your first problem squeaking brakes aka "brake squeal", is most often casued by one or 2 things: "Pad vibration" or a "low brake warning sensor".

Pad vibation is usually caused by ineffective pad anti-rattling clips & hardware that allow the pads to vibrate at a super fast speed whenever the brakes are applied, thus causing a high pitch brake squeal. To correct this, replace all the pad hardware and anti-rattling clips and make sure you use a quality pad set that has anti-rattling plates attached to the backs of them. Weather conditions do affect brake squeal, that is why it seems to be worse at times.

Low brake warning sensor squeal occurs when your brake pads reach the point of replacement, the sensor attached to the pads scrapes on the rotor which produces a high pitch squealing sound to warn you it's time for new pads.

As far as your second problem goes (a knocking sound), I'll need more information about the problem before I can offer a possible cause (eg. happens on left or right turns, while going over bumps, at high or low speeds, accellerating...).

Sqeeking noise only while turning steering wheel, only hear the noise inside-not outside.

check your power sterring fluid. the humbing noise is the gears inside moving. it sounds like it does not have enouph fluid in it causing it to humb.
