There are several pieces to the puzzle.
You would need to verify the coil has battery voltage with the key switch on. Then there is an ignition module that controls spark timing, a pickup coil in the distributor, and so on.
To be able to troubleshoot the system, you would need a book, preferably a shop manual, to get the wiring diagrams and procedures.

thx for the quick reply. I have tried two different modules and a new coil still no luck .the original coil and module were working off and on so i changed both and nothing. how can i check that there is voltage? and is there a fuse or relay that controls the coil and module

Like I said, you need a book. The coil gets power from the key switch.

SOURCE: 1989 Nissan Pathfinder Vg30I-V6 turn's over but wont start

Dear Phoebejanis: If your ignition coil is hot and you can get a spark coming off of the coil wire, the only thing I can suspect would be a problem with a bad rotor in the distributor. If the coil is delivering to the distributor but it travels no further, the energy must be dissipating somewhere. If a rotor has a short, the plug wires will never be delivered any spark.
Also a distributor cap with a missing carbon button which rides on the top of the rotor may be missing. I really cant think af any other things it could be.
If I have solved your problem, please let other's know by writing in, so they will learn, not to mention the ATTABOY's I might get.
Good luck.

SOURCE: Distributor wont spark

check the fuseble link.
you can measure it, and make sure the contact are clean and secured.
the other thing is the check the ignition switch, make sure you have 12v going to the switch.
check thermo switch on top of the block.

SOURCE: i changed the spark plug , the wire set the rotor,

you need to get a diaghram on the firing order of your spark plug

wires, almost any autoparts store will give you the firing order for

your vehicle. if the firing order is incorrect the engine can sound

like its falling apart. the spark plugs also need to be gapped

correctly, they are not always pre-gapped or check the gap of

one of your old spark plugs and match the gap with the new ones.

good luck!

I am not getting gas or spark

The fuel pump and coil are on two different circuits.
The fuel pump is on the 20amp ECM fuse and the coil, ignition module, and injectors are on a 20amp fuse #10. But the ECM fuse could keep the coil and injectors from working.
You would need to test the fuses in the box in the engine compartment, and the fuel pump relay and coil for voltage and ground. The pump relay is grounded by the computer for 3 seconds when the engine is cranked.

99 lumina keeps blowing 5 amp starter fuse, I changed starter about 6 months ago and it quit , now it has started blowing it again. Only sometimes. Will start when I jump starter if fuse has...

Replace the starter relay in the fuse box behind the glove box. The fuse ONLY powers the control coil portion of the starter relay. If it's blowing, there's a short in the winding or a short between the relay and the theft deterrent module. Bad relay is most likely culprit

Thank you for writing all the info needed and the problem to make it easy for me to help you, this problem may be a motor but as like you i dont think the washer and sensor and motor would go out, i have enclosed pictures of the fuse boxes you will need to check, this car has four of them, you will first check the fuse, theres a 30amp fuse located in the engine compartment, you will locate the fuse which controls the wiper module, if theres no power to this module nothing will work, check fuse at location F-17 this will be a 30amp fuse for the wiper module. the diagram will show you the fusebox location and the fuse location, the next place is behind glovebox theres another fuse/relay box, theres a picture of that box also, you will be looking for postion F-48this is the relay for the wipermotor, you will need to swap another relay with the wiper relay to test it.good day and hope this is helpful.johnjohn2_9.pngjohnjohn2_10.png

No spark from coil

okay the first thing is to make sure the timing belt did not break, remove the distrubutor cap, have someone crank the engine as you watch the dist rotor, see if it spins. if it spins then belt didnt break, the next thing is the coil, this coil also contain the ignition module, this is a common problem with a no spark problem on vw. if rotor spins then my next thing would be to replace that coil/module. heres a picture of it, hope this helps.5f2a14b.jpg

Well it sounds like you have a relay problem. It can do that. The terminal you speak of probably has nothing to do with starter at all. a flasher or something, so unplug in and see if the signal light stop working.
Firstly check to see if there are any recalls relating to the problem you can talk to a dealership or good parts store, try silver or auto value. next get a wiring diagram and find the starting relay. Its under the hood somewhere, it changed from year to year but may be over by the battery. Then once you have found it check all electrical connections and make sure they are good and not corroded away. Then if that seems fine go and see what they are worth. If it's only a few dollars replace it. then if it's expensive take it to a shop and get it confirmed that it's the problem.
Give that a try and see what happens but it meets all the things you have said.
