Possible water pump. Remove the belt and grab the pulley , wiggle and spin. Check the other pulleys as well.

Loud rattling sound top of engine near or below the alternator when idling, goes away if accelerator is pressed

Hello: Remove the serpentine belt, see if the waterpump pulley wobbles/makes noise when you spin it. If thats not it then start the engine, belt still off see if noise is there also while engine is running see if vthe crankshaft pulley wobbles. Also check the A/C compressor pulley (engine off, belt off) spin it by hand and check for noise and wobble. If all the previous is ok then it could be the balance shaft front bearing and or the timing chain.

Fan clutch making noise..like bearing is out in shaft..I think the water pump hold the shaft should I replace both

Would really need the model to be precise in diagnosing and giving the right instructions to repair this problem.I am assuming that by fan clutch that you have a viscous fan coupling bolted to your waterpump.Usually they dont get noisey,if they do,I would suggest that the fan would be either very loose and wobbly as you spin it while the engine is off,or it would be very stiff and rough to turn.Usually the fault is the waterpump bearing. It has the load of the fanbelt as well as the fan on it so it will wear out.If it is the fan, usually no need to replace the waterpump at this time, unless it is easy to get to at the same time, and for peace of mine if the mileage is getting high. This is assuming that it is the model that bolts to pump and isnt part of the pressed on hub on the pump shaft. This model is usually easier to replace as a whole unit-pump and viscous fan.I hope this helps you in decision making.

Humming noise and wobbling pulley 1995 Corolla

Maybe, you would have to remove the belts and then take a look at all the pulleys, it could be a pulley or a bad waterpump, or even something in the timing belt, like a timing belt pulley or tensioner pulley or waterpump, the best way to find out is to remove all the belts and then start the motor and listen for the noise, if the noise is still there with the belts removed then its something in the timing belt, but is the noise goes away then its something with the belts a pulley or a alternator, you would have to inspect all pulley and the acc, hope this helps,

Fan is wabling on a 1997 jeep, the belt is still on for now, we can't start the jeep up because it hit the schroud.

Now its a couple of things that may be wrong...1 is your waterpump may be bad, and the shaft is wobbling back and forth...2. it could be your fan clutch...or 3. it just maybe the fan blade itself..sometimes they wear out, because they are made up of plastic...however you can easliy see that, and move it around..and make sure all the bolts are tight..

So. check the waterpump, by tring to shake the fan up and down and side to side, and see if the shaft move, then its the waterpump...the clutch really wont give you too much play, it just wont spin as fast, with the engine running, Or the blade..basically it will look like its fallen off....

JUST CHANGED WATER PUMP, POWER STEERING PUMP, BELT TENSION ASSEMBLY. EVERYTHING OK FOR ABOUT 2 WEEKS AND NOW THERE IS A KNOCK OR RATTLE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF ENGINE. WHEN BELT IS REMOVED THE NOISE GOES...

the damper could be bad if it's the type with the rubber inbetween the pully and the the rest of the damper. check that and see if it is separated. if not looks like your crankshaft bearings could be bad

Fan clutch is wobbly and making a noice

You should replace the fan clutch. Unbolt it from the water pump and pull cluth and fan out together. Unbolt fan blade making note of blade angles, so you install it right on new clutch. Bolt fan on new clutch and reinstall unit. When the clutch has play or wobbles it is time to replace it before it breaks off and goes thru the radiator.

Loud high pitched noise from belt

When you have the belt off, spin that idler pulley and see if it turns easily or makes noise. Check if the bearing feels good and smooth or if it wobbles any. While you are at it, check the fan and fan clutch to see if they turn smoothly also. There should be some resistance to the fan clutch, and make sure the fan isn't rubbing on anything.

Replacing the idler pulley is usually done as a unit since the bearing is part of the pulley.
