SOURCE: parking brake light won't go off after releasing brake lever

Park brake lights normally operate by a small plunger type switch the turns off when the level or pedal is placed in the off position. Over time the spring in the lever weakens and placing the lever in the off position no longer depresses the switch. The switch can sometimes be adjusted to make better contact, or the switch bracket can be bent so the lever and switch make proper contact.

Get down and look at parking brake assembly, If you see an electrical connector, unplug it, see if that helps? If it doesn't help or causes other issues just plug it back in.
Of course that isn't the proper fix. If something wrong with parking brake assembly, get it checked out.

Parking brake

Sounds like the cable is not connected to the back brakes, or the lock pin is broke in the handle.

Parking brake is stuck on and car won't move.

hoq long has the parking brake been on? it may be rusted in place...usually if it is you may need to replace the parking brake cable.... but a quick fix may be remove the rubber plugs on the inside of the rear drums and use a flat screw driver to lift the adjusting lever and turn the adjusting screw gear back to release the brake shoes from the drum.... so depending on if the cableis rusty you may try wd-40 to loosen the cable? on maybe you have to replace the cable.

Parking brake wont stay engaged on 2000 s10

Do you mean that the parking brake works when you press the pedal down but the pedal does not STAY down? If this is the case, you should look at the parking brake mechanism to make sure that the lever that releases the brake is not stuck (the release cable attaches to it - SEE PICTURE BELOW). You will have to remove the lower dash cover to do this. Sometimes the lever gets stuck in the "relaese" position when you pull the cable. Some spray lithium grease usually works well in getting it working again.

If the lever is not sticking, then the ratchet mechanism is dammaged and the pedal assembly will have to be replaced. The assembly is only attached to the vehicle with 3 bolts. It can be a little tricky getting the main cable disconnected fronm the old pedal assembly and connected to the new pedal assembly, but other than that it is not hard to change.

Honda civic ex 2001 parking brake light stays on then goes off

Replace rear brake pads. If that doesn't help, remove the plastic console around the parking brake lever and adjust the pull on the lever. It's probably so loose that it's trigger the light.

This is not normal, looks like someone accidentally drove several miles with the brake on.
