Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

2000 Dodge stratus - runs ok but at times will "chug" or misfire driving down highway - think its an electrical issue as it will almost "act up" when using cruise, turn signals, air conditioning, etc. ALSO - At times when this problem persists the "check engine light" will come on but go out before I can get it anywhere to be evaluated. If lights are "on" then by using anything else, turn signals, rear window defroster, high setting on blower, etc. it will cause problems. Turn this stuff off and car will settle down with an occassional "jerk" or "chug".

You should still take it and get the computer scanned for trouble codes.
If the check engine light comes on for more than 10 seconds there should be codes set.

A leak down test is needed. If everything else has be checked. This will verify valves didn't cause damage or head gasket is ok. Common issue with early 2000 dodge trucks.

I have a 2000 Dodge Stratus with a random misfire on 1,3 and 5. The engine runs fine besides a twitch in the motor that can be felt while idling. Already replaced plugs and wires. Suggestions?

get the OBD codes read this will tell you which switch/sensor is causing the issue , the last random misfire i encountered turned out to be low cylinder compression so if the OBD code says " random misfire " then get the cylinder compressions read , hope this helps

My 2000 malibu chugs while going down highway 5 miles an hour

If you have done basic tune up stuff, I would check fuel pressure with gauge installed and running down the highway. Other possibles are bad ignition module, loose wire somewhere in coil circuit, bad fuel pump, filter, many others.

check the vacuum lines for leaks first, since the cruise uses vacuum to pull on the gas pedal, and ac controls use vacuum to work the baffle doors in the ductwork..then start looking for loose connections on these 3 itemsrepost findings
