Question about 1997 Chevrolet Suburban
Drove it, parked it, came back 1 1/2 hours later and have not power to anywhere in the vehicle, no interior lights, no gauges, nothing. Only sign of life is the anti-theft light below the steering column. Any ideas?
Battery ground or battery cable maybe a mouse had some fun or some other furry animal

You will need to remove the battery and the tray. Under the tray about 8 to 10 inches down there will be a black box 1 inch by about 4inches. Remove the cover, there is a mega fuse there. Should be a 175 amp fuse. With a test light connected to ground, touch both sides of the fuse. If it only lights on one side its bad.
That fuse feeds the underhood fuse box which controls all the things you say don't work.

Youre gauge is controlled by a plunger in the fuel tank which is attached to the sensor and the fuel gauge. it sounds like when the plunger goes down half way its either getting stuck down lower then it should. Needs replacing. Any mechanic can do this install for you.
