i agree with the fuel pump problem this is quite common with these trucks. but the fuel injectors on this motor are not accesable without removing the plenun and they are not standard fuel rail injectors so you can not test as earlier instructed.

SOURCE: car will not run

The fuel pump is inside the gas tank. There is no fuel shut off switch unless it runs through the oil pressure switch circut, meaning if the oil pressure gets low enough,it shuts off the fuel pump to keep from damaging the engine.Good luck,

SOURCE: truck won't run

fuel pressure regulator might be to blame,on vortec models it is located under intake manifold plenum bolted to cpi unit and not real easy to change,o2 sensors will not keep it from running only affects how it runs,on your 96 i think there are 2 o2 sensors before the catalytic converters and 2 after.

Where is the fuel pressure regulator located on a 1988 Dodge B-150 van, 5.2 liter? I've been told it's on the fuel rail. Where is the fuel rail?

If you have throttle-body fuel injection, you don't have a fuel rail. The fuel pressure regulator should be mounted to throttle body.

Fuel pressure regulator on a 2008 buick enclave

  • The regulator is usually mounted on the fuel rail in multiport EFI (Electronic Fuel Injector) applications, or the throttle body assembly in throttle body injection (TBI) applications.
    • Some fuel injector types require pressure regulator replacement as an assembly. There are repair kits available for other types

Where is the Mercruiser fuel regulator valve

The regulator valve dumps excess fuel back to the tank not the throttle body. I would be checking the injector seals. If the regulator is not doing the job of regulating the fuel pressure it will have either too much pressure or not enough (misfiring). So check for any other means that the fuel can get to the throttle body.

Hi Debra: I sugges to check this procedure...

    12_21_2011_5_39_12_pm.jpg

Fig. 1: TBI fuel pressure regulator

    1. Remove the throttle body assembly from the vehicle as outlined in this section.
WARNING To prevent spring pressure release, hold the regulator housing against the throttle body while removing the mounting screws.
    1. Remove the three retaining screws that hold the pressure regulator to the fuel body.
    2. Disassemble the pressure regulator assembly. Note the location of the components for reassembly. Discard the gasket.
    To install:
    1. Install a new gasket and the regulator assembly. Tighten the three retaining screws.
    2. Install the throttle body assembly as outlined in this section.

WARNING The pressure regulator diaphragm MUST be installed with the vent hole aligned with the vent holes in the throttle body and regulator housing!

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I'll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

    Fuel pressure regulator

Two places to look...if you have separate injectors for each cylinder then regulator should be at the front end of the fuel rail. If you have throttle body injection it is on the throttle body itself.

1988 5.7 TBI Nightmare This is the start of what the problem was and is, I had a RV cam installed when the engine was rebuilt a year ago. the cam was not a computer friendly cam so after a round with the rebuilder and discovering the specs weren't the correct ones for the cam I installed a 3702 edelbrock cam and lifters with a 7800 timing chain and gear set after I had tried two chips from Jet and no improved performance and the 3rd chip was to be for the cam and that is what is in the ECU now and I have tried about 5 different BCC chips and the bottom line is the power is there but something is happening its hit and miss the idle will sometimes lope, is stalled when first started and acts as if its starving for fuel or its bogged with to much fuel. the fuel pressure is 10 - 13 psi and I have R/R the TPS, IAC, ESC and knocks device , EGR and Solenoid, MAP, Temp sensor, and the Dist is a Procomp 10001 with a MSD-5526 coil. the Throttle Body was rebuild and the ECM was replaced with a Rebuilt ECM. it will smell rich etc. but with the things that goes on it does not show any codes?? I have no clue just feel stupid this is been a simple thing that is kicking my **** and now its a challenge but still loosing the fight too far in and too much spent to stop,. LOL Help !!!! The BCC is a california vehicle AFBX, 5.7TBI TH400 A/T P.S. the key can be turned of and back on as the engine not dying and seems to correct the power and run problems but will not last goes back to running bad or with problems. ?
