Question about 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier

1 Answer

The fuse (lighter/accessory plug) keeps burning out in my 2000 cavalier. What else could be the problem?

I have replaced the fuse multiple times and keeps burning out after less than 5 minutes of being used. I do know where the fuse box is on the drivers side, and I do know it takes a 20 amp for the fuse. Could a 25 amp work better or something less like a 15 amp?

That won't help, and is never recommended-will only cause further problems down the road. It sounds like the plug is bad and needs replaced, if you can use it and it blows the fuse. They do go bad occasionally.

SOURCE: cigarette lighters not working

UNDERNEATHE THE HOOD THERE IS A FUSE BOX THAT IS COVERED ON THE PASSANGER SIDE FIREWALL. REAL EASY TO GET TO.
TAKE TOP OFF AND TURN TOP UPSIDE DOWN AND READ THE CHART TO SEE WHICH FUSE BELONGS TO THE CIG LIGHTER AND CHANGE IT OUT. REALLY SIMPLE. GO TO AUTOZONE AND ASK SOMEONE TO HELP IF YOU ARE UNSURE. THE FUSE IS SO TINY ALSO!

SOURCE: how to replace a timing chain 2000 chevy cavalier

I am familiar with that vehicle but generally with timing chain replacement, the engine needs full access for pulley and cover removal and in some cases the cylinder head requires removal.
Generally timing chains last so that they only need replacement at engine overhaul and it is not an economic proposition to have to replace a chain unless some relative degree of engine work is also required at that time.

Engine timing chains generally have a tensioner on them which maintains tension, but some chains can wear significantly and cause timing cover to be "ground away" because of "slop".

If the engine is making the noisy rattle of the timing chain against the cover etc, I would schedule a top overhaul (head, machine, test and valve grind) with the chain replacement dependent on mileage with the degree of action.

Some simple simplex timing chains (type of chain similar to motor bike chain) may be replaced without dismantling the engines but I would expect your chain would be a "duplex" dual sprocket type, these are most common.
These chains are not generally expensive but replacing them can involve a fair amount of work.

Good Luck and hope this helps, Others will have different ideas.

2008 nissan versa accessory plug not working

Typically with an accessory plug, there would be a few quick trouble shooting methods. First, check the fuse, if you pull off the fuse box, the diagram will show you exactly where it is. If you change the fuse, and it is still not working, physically look inside the cigarette lighter plug And make sure there is no evidence of rubbish, corrosion or burning. If there is, it is time to replace the plug.

Good luck,
chris

Son plugged ac/dc adapter into accessory plug and it sparked and afterwards cigarette lighter and accessory plug does not work anymore. Thinking maybe fuse but don't have manual to know where fuses are....

Look on the end of the drivers dash in between the dash and the door. That will be the interior fuse panel. Remove the fuse panel door. You will see the fuse diagram on the other side of the access cover. Check the fuse labeled as CIG.

I always use a test light and check them all. Usly faster then looking up which fuse it is. Here is a diagram of fuse block anyhow. CIG stands for cigarette lighter.08b0868.png

Phone Charger Plug

You can burn out your lighter, you can look down inside of it and if it looks black or very dark brown then you need to replace the lighter. Cost about 10 dollars at a local autoparts store and then about 30 minutes of your time.
