Question about Suzuki Grand Vitara
Door ajar warning light and dome lights stay on even when all five doors are checked closed. Appeared that back door switch was problem; replaced but no help. Any suggestions? Is the circuit energized or de-energized when all five switches are working properly?

I had the same problem on my 2001 Suzuki XL7. Dome lights would stay on when the doors were closed. Found that the back door was not making contact on the pin switch. It is a heavy door for the design which opens from the side and years of slamming shut must have gave it a bit of a twist. I put a little spacer on the door to make contact to the switch works good now. Just a word of advice check the simple obvious suspects before trying to chase a short wire.

Start at the driver's door; since this is the most used door. Disconnect door ajar swiches one at a time until the light is off with all doors shut. If the light is still on with all switches disconnected, there is a short circuit in the wiring somewhere. The most likely spot for a short circuit is under the carpet near the front seats.

SOURCE: Door Ajar Warning Light Stays On
Our Ford Expedition & an Olds Silhouette Premier & both did the same thing. Someone online said to spray the inside door where the metal connects with the frame & sensors are there with WD-40. We did & it fixed the problem. Maybe this will work for yours.

I had this problem on my 2003 explorer and took WD40 and gave the lock mechanism a good dose where it meets the clasp on the door jam. Then open and close the doors a couple of times to get them working. They get gummed up and sometimes have a tendency to stick.

What happens when you remove both switches, and wires? What happens when you use a jumper wire acros both wires, on both doors?

remove the door switch, clean and reinsert. It switched ground to a black cable, which goes to the PCM.
