Question about Cars & Trucks
I have had issues before with the car not starting but turned out to be loose wiring, the diagnostic machine was showing a injector error but the lads found the loose wires and it had been running fine until.... Yesterday I hit a bumb in the road and the engine light come on for a few seconds and the car attempted to stall but continued to run, this happened twice on the way home. I went out later that night, stopped at the traffic lights and the car stopped but turned over straight away. I have gone out this morning to take a look and found after revving the car it nearly stalls every time, I can also hear a whistling coming from the engine bay but cannot track it down yet (seems to be from the back of the bay). Does anybody have any idea where I could start, I have read around but not definite answer has been found.
Whistling sounds and the high rpms to a stall situation could be a loose /broken vacuum pipe possible to the transmission actuator ( automatic)
happening after a bump could be from broken engine mounts , loose ground points, harness connections loose loose battery terminals

Your problem sounds like it may be a Mass Air Flow sensor, when it does run bad disconnect the sensor, if the engine starts running ok the sensor is bad, this would be the most common reason for your problem and why it is only intermittent. As far as the overheat do you have a coolant leak?

U DON'T HAVE A CARBURETOR SO FORGET THAT, THE FUEL REGULATOR WOULD NOT CAUSE THIS PROBLEM. I AM A GM FACTORY TECH AND KNOW THIS WITH CERTAINTY. U COULD HAVE SLUDGE IN THE IDLE SPEED CONTROL AIRBYPASS VALVE.

SOURCE: Car running rough and stalling
I had the same problem with my dodge neon. Its your transmission slipping. My car had to have all the transmission flushed and it helped alot, but the longer you let it go, the damage could be permanent.
