Question about 1997 Ford Econoline

Starter won't turn over

Its cold outside around 0 at day break. The lights and other electric stuff seems to be getting enough juice. I did clean my battery terminals? Is this simply a matter of replacing the starter, or is there something else I should rule out? The vehicle is a 1997 Econoline with a 5.4 engine and a automatic transmission. Bob

My ford wont turn over when I turn the key it doeesn't do anything, I changed the starter and it still won't turn over. I tryed stating it from the starter and it just clicks. I'm getting plenty of juice to the electric system lights and accessories work fine. Are there any fuses which could cause this and where are they located.

I cannot believe how many vehicles are suffering from the same problem in this weather ! I swear that the starters are freezing up or something. Don't suppose the van is inside is it? Can you see the starter without too much trouble?

If it Cranks at all, The Starter should be OK. I would check the Fuel Pump and Filter if it Cranks.

Starter wont engage. No clicking. all other electrical seems operational

I would try to jump start it! Sometimes all the rest of the electrical seems ok, but the battery won't have enough juice to activate the starter.

If that fails, i would check your connection from the battery to the starter itself!

Won't turn over

Even though all your other electrical bits are working it could be that your battery doesn't have enough juice to crank the engine. It doesn't take much power to run the radio, lights, etc, but cranking the engine requires the battery to have a very strong charge. If your battery is more than 5 years old, that's very likely the issue. I'd start there. Also, be sure to check the battery terminals and ground for corrosion and clean if necessary. If replacing the battery doesn't solve the problem it could be the starter solenoid or a loose electrical connection somewhere.

My 2004 alero works just fine all the time, but today leaving for work, it won't start. Just got one click and nothing, no trying to turn over. It seems like the dome light works, maybe dimmer than...

Sounds like a battery. Battery probably has enough juice to make the dome lights work, but not enough juice to turn the starter. Have your battery checked out.

Car died while driving, all the electrical went out. Replaced battery, all the lights and systems worked, but car wouldn't turn over, haven't been able to get started, any thoughts?

Check the starter draw with an inductive ammeter that has a probe that goes around the neg. or pos. wire to the battery.

If the draw is 75Amps to 100 Amps or above and it doesn't turn, the starter is bad.

If the draw is 0 or 1 Amp and the starter doesn't turn, it could be a solenoid on the starter, where the starter needs to be replaced.

Car wont start but lights work and starter lights flash on and off

You likely have a dead battery of a bad starter. Does it click when you turn the key?
BATTERY: There may be enough juice to runs some lights but not enough to actuate the solenoid.
SOLENOID: This is a switch that controls the juice to the starter on your engine. It makes a click when it is first engaged. If it is not working correctly, your starter cannot get juice and won't engage.
STARTER: If the starter is too far gone to even make a revolution, then it is time to replace it.
Many auto parts stores will test batteries and starters for free, but the trick is getting there!

The battery cables are dirty at the battery.
Disconnect each cable and clean the cable clamps and battery posts.
The dirty stuff gets hot when you crank the engine or drive. This increases the electrical resistance and not enough juice to crank starter.

2004 A 8L won"t start

starter wont click because there's not enough "juice" to turn it over. this isnt because of the battery as you have just replaced it. it is due to a bad alternator recharging the battery as you drive. if it were only a fuse it would be the solenoid in the starter. but if it had started after you installed the battery then its not the solenoid. solution: buy a refurbished alternator and

Definitely sounds like a starter. When a bad starter is cold, it will start the car. After riding around for a while or after several starts in a row, the starter heats up and won't start without a boost. Since you've ruled out the battery and alternator, I'm positive a new starter will solve your problem. Good Luck!

Won,t start, acts like no juice is going to starter w/charged bat

You need to have your Battery Checked. Common Symtom of an Early Failing Battery. Not enough Cold Cranking Amps Left to Kick it over.
